WTF: Guide Me Lord…Into A Salon

October 30, 2009 WTF? 1 Comment

WTF Guide Me Lord Bad Album ArtFundamentalist evangelical Christians are easy targets for the WTF bad album art flame thrower. They are so convinced by their own rhetoric that it never occurs to them that the REST of the world is snickering, nay, CACKLING at them for their misguided musical exploits. Even in more recent times than when THIS abomination hit the shelves, bands like Creed get big laughs for their squeaky-clean, but ultimately misguided antics.

At least Creed has the decency to attempt a veneer of cool–you’d be fooled for about thirty seconds until you heard the singer’s decidedly non-angsty voice croaking out those high school home room-penned lyrics about sin and salvation. THESE ladies on the other hand, aren’t having any of it.

Could this be a pre-post-modern statement of galactic size? This album prefigures Devo’s “Through Being Cool” by many years but it definitely embodies the central theme of THAT classic. These are women who have carefully constructed an image guaranteed to keep men, women, and some farm animals from expressing ANY interest, sexual or otherwise.

Guide Me Lord by the Joyful Sounds should be framed and displayed fifty feet high as an object lesson to all who see it. And that lesson is this; If you follow Jesus, please follow him to a STYLIST and OBEY the word of the Lord when he says “Thou Shalt Not Frighten Your Audience With Thy Epic-Fail Hair.”

WTF Bad Album Cover: Dan Nicoloff Everybody’s Pink Under The Skin

March 9, 2010

There are bad album covers…and then there are LP covers that make you want to penetrate your own skull with a claw hammer because they’re so mind-rottingly awful. There’s not much to day about this that you haven’t already been thinking to yourself. Dan Nicoloff’s Everybody’s Pink Under The Skin is a sort of lame-o [...]

WTF: The Bad Album Cover Odyssey Of Ted Nugent

March 2, 2010

Alas, poor Ted. A post like this would be harder to write in good fun if he didn’t take himself so seriously or carry himself like a man utterly convinced that he’s right…about everything. But since he DOES give off that Rush Limbaugh-esque bouquet, he’s fair game. After all, who can look at THIS with [...]

WTF: Steve Walsh Glossolalia

March 2, 2010

by Joe Wallace
Normally, when I write up these bad album cover posts, I go into an extended rant about how silly the artwork is, or how goofy the clothing featured on the cover might be, perhaps taking time to savor a ridiculous facial gesture or some badly arranged hair styles.
However, when it comes to former [...]

WTF: At Play With The Playmates

February 24, 2010

I don’t want to know what the boys in THIS band were thinking when they approved this unfortunately candid shot for At Play With The Playmates. The facial expressions alone are priceless. Look at “Lucky Pierre” in the middle there, he’s clearly the only one enjoying himself here…take that however you please, but the guy [...]

WTF: Bad Metal Album Covers

February 17, 2010

Metal bands seem to be particularly challenged when it comes to the cover art. It’s hard to find a truly GOOD album cover by a metal band. Some bands are so impressed with themselves for actually having the stick to finish the album that the artwork is pure afterthought…and it shows.
“Dude! We were so drunk [...]
