WTF: Swing That Gospel Axe

Bad album covers Swing That Gospel Axe

I wonder if when gospel bands are praying to Jesus, if their lord and savior couldn’t take five seconds to have a word with them about their lame-ass album covers. I mean, come ON, now, Jesus…can’t you spare a COUPLE of moments for these poor dorks?

Let’s pass Go AND collect $200–the first thing this album cover says to me is that a slasher movie moment is in the offing here–the Gospel Axe is going to wind up in the back of that chick’s SKULL.

“Hey guys, what do you want to call this band?” Bruce Yelton asks the others. “We’re singin’ about Jesus here, so why don’t we give it some kind of dorky name that sounds like it’s SUPPOSED to be hip and happening, but is really some kind of dumb-ass made up word that doesn’t actually MEAN anything.”

To which the woman in this group replies, “You just said “dumbass”. You’re a sinner and you’re going to hell straightaway. The REST of this band is ‘upbound’ but not you.”

“Well, my sister, you’ve just given us the band name. Now stand over here and don’t move, Im a-gonna swing this Gospel Axe and chop off your head because you’re a dirty FEMALE spreadin’ temptation to us pure and righteous brothers over here. That v-necked sweater that doesn’t actually reveal anything is giving me a Woodrow.”

Bad Album Covers: Cattle Decapitation Humanure

July 20, 2010

by Joe Wallace
Maybe it’s not fair to kick a band when its down. After all, Cattle Decapitation is cookie monster metal and at first glance there’s absolutely NO deep thought going on with songs like “Bukkake Tsunami“.  First impression? This is a band not reaaaallly putting a lot of time pondering artistry here from the [...]

WTF Album Covers: Geraldine and Ricky

July 16, 2010

Seriously, what is with the born-again Christians and the puppets? I can’t think of anything I’d rather do less than spend 45 minutes with my hand up a puppet’s ass talking out of the side of my mouth like a third-rate George Raft. And don’t try to tell me this crap is aimed at KIDS–track [...]

WTF Album Covers: Fleetwood Mac Mystery To Me

July 12, 2010

The real mystery behind this bad album cover is why anyone thought it would be a good idea to market the music on the album using THIS IMAGE. Since a plenty of Fleetwood Mac albums in the catalog featured members of the band on the cover, one can only assume that aesthetic is also represented [...]

WTF Album Covers: Pleasureman by Gunther

June 25, 2010

I thought Gunther was joking. Surely, I wondered aloud, this HAS to be some Saturday Night Live gag spun off into its own release. Please tell me this guy’s not for real. Pleasureman here can NOT be serious.
But he IS.
Let’s consider the album as a unified concept for a moment–the images, the song titles, the [...]
