Milwaukee Avenue in Wheeling, Illinois.

We’ll be posting updates from the show on the Turntabling Facebook page, so if you can’t be there in person, join Turntabling on Facebook.

The Turntabling Collection will be there, featuring hundreds of rare, hard-to-find, and just plain cool vinyl records and CDs from literally all over the world; Italy, Japan, Germany, France, and of course the usual USA-based suspects we all know and love.

Looking for rare Doctor Who vinyl? Star Wars soundtracks? Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy vinyl? The Johnny YesNo soundtrack by Cabaret Voltaire? It’s all in the Turntabling collection and all for sale. All proceeds from the record sales go toward supporting Turntabling.net, and your support is definitely appreciated.

Turntabling also sponsors an after-convention party on Saturday night, February 11. DJ Paisley Babylon spins the most insane mix of tunes ever, and more importantly there is FREE ALCOHOL.

Did we mention the free alcohol?

There are plenty of really rare and obscure CD and vinyl titles on sale this time…do NOT miss the Turntabling booth at Capricon 32!

Turntabling quietly released the first issue of WTF Records: The Turntabling Guide to Weird and Wonderful Vinyl for sale on Etsy last week. The first issue, along with issue #2 will also be available for purchase at the Turntabling booth at our appearances at Capricon 32, Horrorhound Weekend, Cinema Wasteland, and Days of the Dead Atlanta.

The zine–which is NOT a replacement for the WTF Records book, which is now in the photography stage–was up for sale for about 24 hours before it was getting orders and, a little bit later, positive reviews like the one at One Minute Zine Reviews, who had really nice things to say about Issue One.

And while we’re talking about One Minute Zine Reviews, if you’re into indie press pubs, zines and the like, OMZR is a really well done labor of love that also features a radio version–the first time I’ve ever heard of zine reviews being done on the air and syndicated to boot! Great stuff indeed.

So the cat is out of the bag–Turntabling has gone into print with our WTF Records zine, which is a supplement to the site and features exclusive, print-only content not found here or at our Facebook page.

Many thanks to One Minute Zine Reviews for all the kind words, and if you are a zine publisher and want to submit your zine for consideration at One Minute Zine Reviews, send all material to DJ Frederick at 36 West Main Street Warner NH 03278 USA.

As always thanks for reading…

Our first show of the new year is Capricon 32, February 9-12. This science fiction convention is held at the Westin Chicago North Shore, Wheeling, IL. There are two items of note–the guest of honor for this year’s show is Cory Doctorow, who you might know from BoingBoing.

The other is that Turntabling is hosting a party suite during the show on Saturday night, February 11. Stop by the Turntabling booth for details–this is a blowout with free drinks and music by DJ Paisley Babylon.

Our next appearance is scheduled for Days of the Dead in Atlanta, March 9 – 11. The Turntabling Collection will be there with plenty of new arrivals, strange and rare vinyl, plus a LOT of horror soundtracks on CD. We’ve never traveled so far to do a convention, so this is an experiment for Turntabling. Come out and say hello, Atlanta area vinyl lovers!

Following Days of the Dead, Turntabling will be at back-t0-back horror festivals starting with Horrorhound Weekend, March 23-25 in Columbus Ohio. This promises to be a slam-bang con–this one features Pam Grier as one of the guest celebs– and Turntabling will have loads of great finds for you, as usual including some Jackie Brown soundtrack LPs suitable for signing.

While you’re in Columbus, might I also recommend a visit to the really awesome Columbus record stores like Spoonful Records and Lost Weekend? They are most excellent…

The very next weekend finds Turntabling at Cinema Wasteland March 30th, 31st and April 1st, 2012 in Strongsville, Ohio. There are sixteen new-to-Wasteland guests and this show is always a 100% blast. One of the best shows we do, hands down. The Turntabling Collection will be available for sale as usual and there is a lot of hard-to-find vinyl goodness waiting for you.

After that, the travel season winds down for us until August when things start getting crazy again–Flashback Weekend in Chicago, another round of Horrorhound Weekend and Cinema Wasteland appearances, plus we’re looking forward to doing another Flint Horror Con and possible another appearance at Dark Carnival Film Festival. Stay tuned….

LOTS of great conversations with vinyl lovers from all over. Thank you for supporting Turntabling and coming out to the show. This was the final Turntabling.net appearance of the year and the convention season (for me, anyway) is finished. It’s been a hell of a tour! Flashback Weekend, Cinema Wasteland, HorrorHound, the Dark Carnival Film Festival and the utterly wonderful Flint Horror Con.

It’s hard to believe the season is over for us now, but in a few weeks, Vinyl Road Rage Four kicks off a six-state tour of indie record shops, blogging all the way.

Please spread the word about the journey as all the attention this little excursion can get goes a long way toward helping spread the word–Turntabling wants to get to know and promote indie record stores across the USA, and in this craptacular economy we’re in, these stores need all the support they can get.

There will be a post with the full six-state itinerary in a few days.

I should mention that this particular Vinyl Road Rage is going to be recorded not only as the blog posts you see here, but also as a tour diary that is going to be published as a book. Stay tuned for details on that. Chances are good that several Vinyl Road Rage journeys will be part of that book along with pictures and possibly even a DVD companion. More info on that as it develops.

When Turntabling gets back from the show the usual posts will begin again as usual…if you want the latest from the show, join me on my Facebook page for photos and updates. I post often when the reception is good.

The next big news for Turntabling after HorrorHound Weekend is Vinyl Road Rage #4, which departs Chicago on December 8 to hit and blog about indie record shops between Chi-town and Dallas, Texas. A full itinerary will be announced next week including a list of record shop stops planned.

As of now the route includes Nashville, Tennessee for a stop at the legendary Grimey’s, then a hop over to Memphis, then on to Little Rock Arkansas. Then it’s to Norman, Oklahoma for a look at Guestroom Records-a place long on the wish list for Vinyl Road Rage.

After Oklahoma it’s off in search of awesome indie record shops in Dallas, Fort Worth, Denton, Tulsa Oklahoma, Kansas City, and then a stopover in Springfield, Illinois to Recycled Records. After Springfield, it’s the final four hour home stretch back to Chicago.

Does that trip sound a bit crazy to you? It starts on the 8th of December and ends on the 21st. I must add that I’ll be blogging the entire way–including some video on the Turntabling YouTube Channel, which is linked to the right of this post at the top where all the social media icons are

I’m very happy to announce my work on a new book called WTF Records: The Turntabling Guide To Weird And Wonderful Vinyl.

The book features a collection of reviews and discussion of the most bizarre, unusual, highly collectible, and just plain awesome vinyl records in my collection.

But that’s not all–the book also features interviews and commentary by musicians, record store owners, vinyl collectors and others about their strangest, most jaw-droppingly weird vinyl finds.

And that’s where you come in. I’m putting out an open call for interviews for this book, Simply answer the questions below, include a one-paragraph bio including links to any website, online record store, Facebook page or any project you care to promote, and send it to the following e-mail address:

Simply answer the questions here, include your bio and send–it’s as easy as that. Your story could end up being published in the book alongside plenty of other luminaries, vinyl junkies, lovers of the strange and bizarre, etc. Thank you very much for your support and participation. As of now the book is halfway done and there is still room for plenty of these interviews.

WTF Records Interview

1. What is the strangest, most bizarre, awful or out-of-left-field album you know of? Describe it for those of us who have never heard of the performer(s), who don’t know the back story, or might not have a frame of reference for the record.

2. How did you find the album–and what was your reaction when you first discovered it?

3. Did you buy it? Do you inflict it on unsuspecting friends or guests? Tell us a funny story about someone else’s reaction (or your own) when you played it (or similar WTF find).

4. WTF records have a strange appeal to some–are you attracted to albums like these or do you want to be rid of them instead? Why?

5. Do you collect weirdness on vinyl? What are some of your favorite finds and what are your favorite sources for them? (Plugs for your favorite record shops by name are definitely welcome.)

Please feel free to include a brief bio promoting any projects you’d like to mention in the book as part of the bio blurb at the end of the interview.
