Another Crazy Vinyl Blog

…in this case that is quite literally the name of the blog, and I am an absolute sucker for stuff like this. Another Crazy Vinyl Blog is recently updated, has a nice back catalog of posts to browse through, and not crammed full of the same old album covers that have made the rounds again and again.

This is a new discovery of mine and I’m looking forward to diving in to see what mad treasures await. I DID find one cover on this site that appears to feature a nude Judy Collins…no, strike that, it DOES feature a nude Judy “Send In The Clowns” Collins. The image below is courtesy of Another Crazy Vinyl Blog. Judy Collins fans, avert your eyes!

Yes, Another Crazy Vinyl Blog is among my latest vinyl-bloggin’ obsessions. THANK YOU FOR EXISTING!

Vinyl Blog to Watch: Get On Down with the Stepfather of Soul

Imagine my surprise to run across this first thing in the AM on a Friday. Get On Down with the Stepfather of Soul is home to not one, but TWO podcasts featuring awesome, off-the-beaten-track soul sounds originally pressed on vinyl, glorious vinyl. Get on Down and Stepfather of Soul are both very worthy podcasts that WILL act as your gateway drug to an obsession with collecting these sounds–possibly even an addiction to 45s. You have been warned.

This blog appeals to someone like me who, while enjoying the idea of the film Cleopatra Jones, was extremely annoyed with it because the soundtrack had the feel of some decidedly non-funky composer trying to mimic (unsuccessfully) the genuine article as you’ll hear in these two podcasts. I know that’s about as nitpicky as it gets, but I was immediately put off by the psuedo-funky sounds in that movie, especially when the real thing is so damn good in similar genre movies including Truck Turner. Hell, even Blacula had a more kickass score than Cleopatra Jones.

But I only babble about that because these podcasts are so inspired…the tracks are top notch. I particularly enjoyed Stepfather of Soul #37, the Soulful Allsorts show. Check it and see what I mean…this is superior podcasting, folks.

Blogs to Watch: Dust And Grooves

Dust and Grooves Crate Digger Photo Blogby Joe Wallace

I love both the concept and execution of Dust and Grooves. Just look at that amazing photo of The Ohio Players greatest hits collection–just one of the many crate digger’s delights you’ll discover at DustandGrooves.com. There is a decent sized archive of excellent posts to crawl through here but it’s sad that the site hasn’t updated since late April–but Dust and Grooves’s Eilon Paz has been traveling so it’s entirely possible it’s just a temporary hiatus. (Please say it’s temporary!)

One of the great entries on the blog is the feature on European record collector Viktor Kiswell who had this little gem in his collection:

Porno Record Report

Dust and Grooves is one of my current obsessions–-here’s hoping this blog starts the updates again soon! GREAT work. Recommended.
