Tenebre Soundtrack Vinyl…The Last of the Last?

March 31, 2010 album No Comments

Goblin Tenebre LP vinyl albumIt’s been fun, but it looks like the fun is about to end. We have it on good authority that the much-beloved Tenebre vinyl LP released by Dagored is finally going out of print. Once they are gone from your local record stores, they are gone unless somebody in Italy changes their mind and decides to run up some more of these.

What does this mean for us, the rabid record collectors, Goblin junkies, soundtrack lovers everywhere? Unfortunately, in the same vein as the much sought-after release of The Beyond soundtrack, prices on any remaining copies of Tenebre on vinyl released by Dagored will probably go through the roof.

The Beyond OST soundtrack CD by Fabio Frizzi already sells for $199 US for a new, sealed copy. That is utter MADNESS, don’t you think? Used copies of the CD sell for about $50. Will this also happen to the much beloved Tenebre soundtrack? Probably.

Turntabling itself has sold out of the Dagored vinyl release of Tenebre–it flew off our table at the HorrorHound Weekend show in Indianapolis, so alas there will be no profiteering from us thanks to the lack of Tenebre vinyl…however we are always looking for more copies and rest assured, if we find them we will put them up for sale here–without the $100 price tag, thank you very much!

Goblin Roller CD

March 1, 2010 For Sale No Comments

Goblin Roller CD
After Profondo Rosso, Goblin released a rare, non-soundtrack album. Some sources say the title track was part of a film soundtrack called Wampir, but I can’t confirm or deny that bit of trivia. No matter, as Roller is a fantastic record.

If you’re already a fan of Goblin, this is a must-own. You’ll recognize a bit of Deep Red influence here, especially on the title cut, but there’s a nice overall prog vibe throughout the album, and Snip-Snap is absolutely classic Goblin from the Profondo Rosso period.

If you’re new to the group, let it be known that they’re a fine entry in the Italian prog field…not a prog fan? Or are you convinced that Emerson, Lake, and Palmer or Yes is as far as you need to go? Think again–those two groups aren’t really even on the radar here. Goblin isn’t what you’d call a prog purist group, which makes them all the more interesting. It’s definitely an influence in all the best ways, though.

Goblin is hard to pin down, stylistically speaking–later efforts went further into synth/dance territory to good effect. Roller is six outstanding cuts that is getting hard to find, and even download junkies won’t find any official versions of the Roller track Dr. Frankenstein, as it’s listed as “album only.” Hear it in all its glory on this gorgeous import compact disc.

Roller by Goblin is a new, sealed import compact disc on Cinevox Records. Buy it now from Turntabling for $26.00 plus shipping.

Here’s a brief, fan-shot snippet of a Goblin live performance of Roller. It’s far too short, but nice to see.

Dawn of the Dead Soundtrack LP Back In Stock

January 18, 2010 For Sale No Comments

Dawn of the Dead album vinyl

We were sold out of this awesome slab of 180 gram vinyl goodness, but we have a new supply of the Dagored reissue Dawn of the Dead vinyl LP. This album is one of our all-time best selling titles and a Turntabling favorite. Dawn of the Dead still packs a punch after all these years–there’s nothing quite like it. For all its influence, no other film (even the remake) has come close to capturing the claustrophobia and comedy of the zombie apocalypse.

Romero may have set the bar with Night of the Living Dead, but for some of us die-hard Dawn fans, this is THE film to see. A movie that takes itself seriously but doesn’t come across heavy-handed, has genuinely funny moments without stooping to the lowest common demoninator.

As for the soundtrack, Goblin seems to be in a strange twilight zone between Suspiria and Tenebre when it comes to the compositions. This album sounds like no other–Goblin uses the synth to good effect here, and while the 4 piece guitar/bass/keyboard/drums approach is the main event here, this one doesn’t sound like a rock combo–unlike the Tenebre soundtrack where it’s clear this is a four piece band. Dawn of the Dead manages to be more than a combo but something short of an orchestral thing. A fun anomaly.

Turntabling has the Dawn of the Deaad original soundtrack vinyl LP for sale while supplies last. This is a new, sealed vinyl record. Get it now for $28 plus shipping.

Profondo Rosso Soundtrack Vinyl LP Now Selling

December 23, 2009 For Sale No Comments

deep red profondo rosso goblin LPWe teased you with this earlier–accepting pre-orders for the Dagored 180 gram vinyl LP edition of the Profondo Rosso (Deep Red) soundtrack by Goblin. Wait no longer! We are now accepting orders for this fantastic soundtrack to one of Dario Argento’s best films. We have to warn you–this soundtrack is quickly vanishing from the market as people scoop it up. It won’t be long before it’s scarce again and our source for these says get them while you still can!

Dario Argento’s Profondo Rosso, also released in America as Deep Red, is one of our favorites. It’s loaded with prog sounds and if you’re addicted to them as we are, you will be pleased at the treasure trove of ‘em on this delicious slab of vinyl. The two most popular selling artists on Turntabling–both at the booth at horror conventions and on the website–are Ennio Morricone and Goblin.

Part of the reason–so it seems to us–is that there’s such a diverse range of sounds to explore in both cases that you never grow tired of listening. Goblin in particular goes all over the map from Prog to Italian disco sounds, and in spite of some missteps along the way, Goblin is one of the greats in the wide world of soundtracks.

We still have plenty of copies left over after the pre-order frenzy, so don’t be shy about ordering yours. This one ships within the USA only. The Profondo Rosso soundtrack by Goblin is a brand new, sealed vinyl record on sale at Turntabling for $28.00 plus shipping. International shipping is $13.

Profondo Rosso Soundtrack LP by Goblin PRE-ORDER NOW

December 21, 2009 For Sale No Comments

deep red profondo rosso goblin LP

We had the amazing soundtrack LP for Dario Argento’s Profondo Rosso in stock, it quickly sold out, but we’re expecting a nice consignment of this delicious 180 gram vinyl album once more, so we invite you to pre-order the album simply by sending us a message to orders@turntabling.net saying you’d like to reserve a copy.

We won’t bill you for the album until it has arrived and is shipped out to you. All that’s needed is your paypal e-mail address–we’ll send you a request for payment when the viny arrives.

Dario Argento’s Profondo Rosso, released in the USA as Deep Red (and sometimes Deep Red Hatchet Murders) is one Argento’s finest contributions to the genre. David Hemmings is fantastic as the musician looking for clues to a murder he witnesses outside an apartment. What he finds is…well, you have to see the movie. Suffice it to say any new fan of Italian horror should fall in love with this one, and old fans already know how well done the movie is in spite of a few flaws along the way…but that’s Italian cinema for you–take the good with the bad.

The soundtrack by Goblin is full of great prog flourishes and is totally unlike the band’s work on Suspiria or Tenebre…Goblin shows tremendous versatility between these three soundtracks, but of the three Deep Red is probably their most musically accomplished in terms of traditional arrangements.

This is a brand new, sealed vinyl LP on sale at Turntabling for $23 plus shipping. The album is available for PRE ORDERS ONLY and ships within the USA only at present. Send your pre-order with the subject line DEEP RED LP PRE-ORDER to orders@turntabling.net complete with your paypal email addy. As mentioned above, Turntabling will send a request for payment when the album is shipped.

Goblin Television Appearances

December 3, 2009 Media No Comments

goblin logo
This may be old news to some Goblin fans but it never occurred to some of us here to do a YouTube search on Goblin to see what kind of television appearances they made to promote the work they did for Argento and others. And what a treasure trove of retro television this clip is! Cheesy hair, goofy stage presentations (love the red boots, lads) and the Jimmy Page double neck guitar all prog bands were required by law to have in at least one stage of their career arc. … Continue Reading
