Russ Meyer Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! Picture Disc Vinyl LP

Russ Meyer’s Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! is a classic of the drive-in exploitation genre.  As the trailer says, “The sweetest kittens have the sharpest claws.” My favorite line from the movie, asked by a crotchety desert-dweller; “You girls a bunch of nudists or are you just…short of clothes?” How can you possibly go wrong with this movie?

For a start, you get Tura Satana wiping the floor with the dudes and rolling around in the hay to boot. This is the movie that put Russ Meyer in the hearts and minds of drive-in denizens everywhere, even if it took a little time to get there. And on the soundtrack front, the music for this is really fun–that blurry line between late 50s camp and groovy beatnik watusi madness. The theme song alone is worth the price of admission.

People who pull serious faces about cinema give Russ Meyer the short shrift, but these weren’t SUPPOSED to be Zaffirelli or Bergman pictures. They are what they are. Have a look at the trailer for Faster Pussycat! at the end of this post. If you haven’t experienced a Russ Meyer movie yet, you’re in for a treat. We recommend seeing Beyond the Valley of the Dolls first, but Faster Pussycat! is a good second choice.

Beyond the Valley of the Dolls

beyond the valley of the dollsIFC is a wonderful thing. If you missed their recent showings of Russ Meyer’s Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, you owe it to yourself to see it somehow. The movie is utter madness. With a soundtrack that wavers back and forth between hip and laughably square, and a torrent of absolutely ridiculous dialogue (supplied by screen writer Roger Ebert!) this is the ultimate six-pack movie.

Speaking as someone who, as a kid yearned for someone to drop acid in the Brady Bunch’s water supply, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls is the perfect antidote to all of that Sherwood Schwartz 60s wholesome television goodness.

Behold!

Zombie Disco!

FINALLY, the long-awaited update on the Turntabling front…it has been far too long I know, but the madness round here has been both profitable and amusing. On that note, I’ll be DJing the Chicago Horror Society’s one-year anniversary party and Zombie Disco on June 20th at Chicago’s famous Viaduct Theater. Stay tuned for more details.

Yes, it’s been a little while since the last update–things have gone crazy in the Turntabling camp! Rest assured, the updates begin in earnest now that the smoke has cleared. Here are some of the developments I’ve been working on since the last update here–lots of DJ gigs lining up, some photo shoots forthcoming, and plenty of freelance blogging and editing. It’s been a busy few weeks. Fortunately there’s been plenty of interest in Turntabling.net, and we are pleased to report the Russ Meyer bio is almost sold out. THANK YOU to everyone who purchased copies. Your support of Turntabling is greatly appreciated.

I’ll be adding some exciting new things for sale soon. Stay tuned.

Wanted: Beyond the Valley of the Dolls LP

beyond-the-valley-of-the-dolls

For reasons not even J.R. “Bob” Dobbs could possibly understand, I’ve become fixated with finding an LP copy of Russ Meyer’s Beyond The Valley of the Dolls soundtrack. I know I could order this from some schlub on eBay in all likelihood, but I’d rather deal direct with someone who ISN’T charging $75 for it. I want to LISTEN to it, not put it under glass and fondle myself while LOOKING AT IT.

If you have a copy you want to sell, drop me a line on Twitter, I’m at Twitter.com/Turntabling. Thanks in advance!
