Ennio Morricone Limited Edition Vinyl New In Stock

The latest vinyl titles up for sale in the Turntabling shop include a BUNCH of awesome limited edition vinyl from Dagored in Italy, featuring none other than Ennio Morricone. Dagored is one of the best labels in existence when it comes to these reissues, and it is very exciting to have a nice pile of their releases back in the shop.

One of the most unusual spaghetti westerns of the period (when they were all the rage) is the one starring Klaus Kinski called Il Grande Silenzio, which just so happens to have one of Morricone’s moodiest soundtracks. SEE THIS MOVIE BEFORE YOU CROAK if you know what’s good for you. It’s the strangest western NOT starring Bob Dylan. Maybe that’s going a bit too far, but just know that you are NOT getting the usual stuff with this one. It’s refreshingly left-of-center. Buy the limited edition vinyl LP soundtrack for Il Grande Silenzio from Turntabling.

This trailer might provide a little tiny hint at what you can expect…

Revolver is major favorite here at Turntabling vinyl central…one listen to this record and you’ll be instantly hooked, and the film is crazy good, too. None other than Oliver Reed gets to chew a LOT of scenery in this one and the ending? Well, wow. This is another of the most fun-to-watch Italian films of the era, and is packed full of twists and turns. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Purchase the Revolver soundtrack vinyl from Turntabling.

True confession time–at the time of this writing nobody here at Turntabling has actually seen The Link, but it certainly has the provocative album cover you’re used to getting from Italian soundtrack reissues, and the presence of Ennio Morricone can only make the viewing experience better, regardless of the actual quality of the film. This one is on our to-watch list, for sure.

And last, we have this lovely and VERY limited edition yellow vinyl edition of Morricone’s soundtrack for Escalation. Scroll below to hear one of the best tracks from this or any other Morricone soundtrack of the era. In the meantime, don’t miss out on this one, another example of a limited edition (500 copies on yellow vinyl) that will be gone soon, soon.

And be sure to check out the amazing, and all-too-short clip below…wow, what sounds! Get your Ennio fuzz guitar on.

Deep Red (Profondo Rosso) Trailer

Why are some of us vinyl collectors so hung up on giallo soundtracks, Italian horror, and Italian cinema in general? The Ennio Morricone connection aside, there is some kind of weird perfect storm that happens when you get the music, the trailes, and the movies together. A look at the Deep Red trailer is proof of that. Deep Red, aka Profondo Rosso, was directed by Dario Argento at the height of his talent and cinematic clout. Starring David Hemmings and Dario Nicolodi, this is a GREAT entry into the world of giallo. If you haven’t seen it, the trailer might just push you over the edge.

Goblin’s score for this goes all over the place, from edgy prog to moody atmospheres, and it’s fairly unique among their output if you’re thinking of soundtracks like Dawn Of The Dead and Tenebre. This was a project Goblin stepped into after Giorgio Gaslini and Argento parted ways during the film. Gaslini gets a credit on the soundtrack, but Goblin is front and center.

P.S. if you let this video play and move on to the next ones, there are a TON of great Italian horror and horror-related trailers there…loads of classics!

La Ragazza Con La Pistola Soundtrack and Trailer

Monic Vittia La Ragazza Con PistolaIf the name Monica Vitti doesn’t tell you everything you need to know about La Ragazza con la Pistola, then perhaps you need a bit more nudging from the trailer (below) which features a VERY groovy soundtrack indeed. Composer Peppino Di Luca brings a whole truckload of groovy to this film and some of us could watch Monica Vitti do nothing more than read from the Italian version of the Yellow Pages (the Giallo Pages, perhaps?) for three hours…so this should be a no brainer. You can buy the soundtrack for La Ragazza con la Pistola (The Girl With The Gun) from Turntabling now while supplies last.

Who Is Turntabling?

Joe Wallace Vinyl RecordsTurntabling has been expanding lately and going through some changes and now seems to be a great time to reintroduce myself and Turntabling.

My name is Joe Wallace, and for all intents and purposes, I am Turntabling. I run Turntabling from the 5th floor of the Bridgeport Art Center, where I also do vinyl-related art shows and special events. There is a large inventory of vinyl records there, and it’s getting larger all the time. I will have to hire people to help me run it all one of these days soon…but I’m dreading that as I like to personally take care of everything related to Turntabling.

I started collecting records at a very young age, but didn’t get serious about buying until 1997, when I started amassing a pile of bizarre regional and obscure New Wave records from Texas and elsewhere.

I got obsessed with collecting Goblin titles after purchasing two CD compilations of Goblin soundtrack music from an Austin record shop called 33 Degrees, which is now sadly long gone…Goblin led to collecting Ennio Morricone work from the 1960s through 1980s, and that led to buying Riz Ortolani soundtracks, which led to an interest in Bossa Nova and related sounds that could be heard in giallo movies, Italian horror films, sexy Euro cinema and other films from that era between 1960 and say, 1986.

Eurohorror figures largely into these things, too but some of those influential soundtracks are REALLY hard to find these days–IF they are even available at all. Try finding a vinyl copy of the OST for The Blood Spattered Bride or Jess Franco’s Venus In Furs and you’ll see what I mean.

Turntabling has an almost Japanese vinyl otaku focus to it in that I am very interested in soundtrack records in general, but especially Italian horror, giallo, and exploitation. I’m also into anything electronic, bizarre, naughty or experimental on vinyl. I try to sell things I want in my own collection, and I am always up for purchasing record collections or lots of albums that include New Wave, Goth, Industrial, Experimental, No Wave, etc.

So basically I am on the lookout for electronic, experimental, soundtracks, and unclassifiable/weird records. Since I buy AND sell, I am always happy to consider offers from people who want to sell their collection of records.

I scour the earth for vinyl records to list for sale in the Turntabling Discogs shop and to add to my own collection. When I am not selling vinyl records, I’m planning vinyl-related art shows as mentioned above, and other creative endeavors.

When you buy from Turntabling, you buy from me and support the vinyl projects I run from the 5th floor of the Bridgeport Art Center. You also support the annual cross-country record store blogging trip I do called Vinyl Road Rage. It takes of a LOT of gas and hotel money to blog about America’s most wonderful places–the record stores–and every album you buy from Turntabling supports that effort, too.

If you have questions, want to buy vinyl, or want to sell a record collection, please get in touch with me: orders@turntabling.net. If you’re interested in connecting with me on social media, please drop me a friend request at Facebook or connect with me on Instagram. I’m also on Twitter.

Thanks for your interest and keep on spinning those records!

Now For Sale From Turntabling

Vinyl the living dead at manchester morgue soundtrack album

There is a LOT of vinyl goodness on sale at the Turntabling Discogs shop.

We’ve made some great finds recently and there are plenty of rare and hard to find LPs there including the Death Waltz edition of the Living Dead At The Manchester Morgue soundtrack, which is fantastic all on its own, but comes beautifully packaged from Death Waltz complete with a poster and that excellent cover art.

Five dolls for an August Moon sountrack AMS Cinevox

We were also lucky enough to get our hands on a vinyl copy of the Five Dolls For An August Moon sountrack–Piero Umilliani scoring for Mario Bava? That is a combination that just cannot go wrong. This one is a must-have for any fan of Bava, or the soundtrack sounds from that era of Italian cinema. Fabulous.

And then thEraserhead Sacred Bones Double LP reissueere’s the Eraserhead soundtrack, a double LP reissue that is increasingly hard to find. Where to start? David Lynch creates an experience like no other both in the film AND on the soundtrack record, which really does stand all on its own with or without the film. How on earth could a soundtrack fan or a Lynch afficianado be without this? The version we’re selling is the amazing reissue on Sacred Bones which has a TON of extras. Buy this before I change my mind about selling it!Day of the Dead Soundtrack Romero

The George Romero film Day Of The Dead now has a couple of editions out when it comes to soundtrack albums, and we’ve got both in the shop–this one and the Waxworks edition (while supplies last). This is a sealed edition of the original issue John Harrison soundtrack and features that 80s artwork we all know and love. The dead walk!

These soundtrack albums are available via the Turntabling Discogs shop and are for sale while supplies last only. First come, first served!

Dance Of The Vampires Soundtrack Vinyl LP

Dance of the Vampires Vinyl Record soundtrack horrorJust added at Turntabling! The Series Aphonos reissue of the soundtrack of The Fearless Vampire Killers, also known as Dance Of The Vampires. We’ve got this vinyl LP soundtrack to the classic horror comedy directed by Roman Polanski available on a first-come, first served basis. When it’s gone, it’s gone!

This soundtrack has plenty of admirers–take a look at the trailer below to see if you’re one of them (if you don’t know already)…this was definitely a product of its time, but a very enjoyable screwball vampire movie best watched on a double bill with Captain Kronos, Vampire Hunter.

Dimitri Tiomkin Guests On The Jack Benny Program

For fun, I thought I’d share this clip from the Golden Age of Television. Here the soundtrack composer of Town Without Pity and High Noon guests on an wacky episode of The Jack Benny Program. He can hardly keep himself from cracking, at first, but is quite funny by the end of the show. Benny’s composition and violin ‘skills’ show up often in his series to antagonize many guests.

I’m a big fan of Dimitri Tiomkin. I’ve been one since hearing David Bowie’s version of Wild is the Wind on Station To Station. One of most romantic songs of the budding New Wave movement was actually written the 1950s.

Town Without Pity is classic played in many films, including John Waters 1988 version of Hairspray (that soundtrack makes us shimmy).  I found out recently that the song is from a 1961 film by the same name. I was embarrassed not to know about this film years earlier. I caught it late night, a few years ago.  It’s not for the young ones, but there’s a lot of edge of your seat action.

I like comedy shows where famous people play themselves. The Jack Benny Program was know for playing with the sitcom structure. Tiomkin was certainly a unique choice of guest for a comedy sketch. He gives a great performance. The dog is gorgeous too.

Turntabling will keep an eye out for this composer’s soundtracks and keep you posted if any end up for sale.

Herbie Hancock to Lecture at Harvard University

Herbie Hancock gets a standing ovation at the Grammy Awards for the performance of Rockit.

Today, the news reports Mr. Hancock is named the 2014 Charles Eliot Norton Professor of Poetry.  Also, he will be presenting six lectures in February and March at the Sanders Theatre  on Harvard University’s campus in Cambridge Massachusetts . These lectures are open to the public (with tickets) and are a recommended as not to missed by our staff. Here are the details, dates and times.

As one of Turntabling’s most treasured artists, Herbie Hancock’s works across five decades are standards in our vinyl collection and dance floor.

In 1966 he composed the Swinging London soundtrack of Blow-Up. Blow-Up is one of the films that brought our staff to soundtrack appreciation in the first place.

We’re delighted  to send our congratulations to an artist who we feel is more than worthy of all the awards and praise he’s collected so far. We’re also a little sad. Turntabling staff can’t run to attend these, sure to be amazing, lecture events with a great man.

New Vinyl Arrivals at Turntabling: Morricone, Joy Division, Goblin

There is a TON of great new vinyl for sale on the Turntabling Discogs page. Italian soundtrack fans will love the addition of My Delicious Spaghetti Western on the legendary Dagored label, and it’s been a great long while since I had a copy of Ennio Morricone’s La Donna Invisible to offer–it’s one of my favorite soundtracks from the era. I am always on the lookout for more excellent titles from Italy from the giallo, horror, sci-fi and thriller genres. You can never have too many Goblin albums, and Morricone’s work from the 60s and 70s never gets dull.

Turntabling sells vinyl from a variety of genres including soundtracks, goth/industrial, 80s new wave and punk, and just plain rare/obscure titles. I scour the earth to find these, and several times a year embark on cross-country trips to buy entire collections, find weird and outrageous vinyl, and meet my fellow vinyl junkies.

If you have a collection to sell, I’d be very happy to discuss it–but please know that I buy in the genres that I sell here. Country, show tunes, classic rock, and other genres unrelated to what I sell on Turntabling are of little interest. The ONLY exception to that rule is when weird or unsual albums are involved.

Here is a VERY SMALL selection of what I currently have for sale on Discogs. You can always send me an e-mail for a list of my latest arrivals–it’s an auto-responder that has my very latest items listed. Just send an email to: turntabling23@gmail.com. This list is updated whenever I get new arrivals–want the latest? Just send another email to that address and you’ll have the latest updated version.

Thanks very much for checking out Turntabling! Your interest is what keeps the site going year after year.
