Piero Umiliani La Morte Bussa Due Volte Soundtrack CD

March 3, 2010 For Sale No Comments

Piero Umiliani La Morte Bussa Due Volte

Piero Umiliani is a Turntabling favorite. If you’re not familiar with his soundtrack work from Mario Bava movies and films like La Morte Bussa Due Volte, this soundtrack is squarely in retro Italian lounge/retro territory. It’s great for anyone who loved the Beat at Cinecitta collection, or a hard-to-find disc called The Beat, The Shake, and the Lounge.

La Morte Bussa Due Volta, also known as Death Knocks Twice, stars Fabio Testi, Dean Reed and Anita Ekberg and is probably tough to pin down on DVD (we haven’t tried yet). The movie involves a bit of euro-mystery, a bit of serial killing, an dhis soundtrack is great fun, and if you’re loving the lounge sound, scoop this up. If you’re hunting for haunting, Morricone-esque experimentation this CD isn’t for you, but Umiliani fans won’t be let down.

La Morte Bussue Due Volte is a new, sealed import compact disc. Buy it now for $15 plus shipping.

Suspiria LP Temporarily Sold Out

February 16, 2010 Media, album No Comments

suspiria soundtrack LP vinyl record for sale

Demand has gone crazy for the Argento titles…the Suspiria vinyl album is temporarily sold out (more are on the way) and there aren’t many copies left of a few of the other Argento LPs–the vinyl is going fast lately, probably thanks in part to an excellent post today on Listverse.com called 10 Brilliant Giallo Films.

MikeR wrote up a very nice collection of films including one of my  favorites–Death Walks On High Heels.  Not very keen at all on A Blade In The Dark, but his other selections are spot on…more posts like these, please!

vinyl records for sale

Things have been a bit quiet here as Turntabling prepares for its first appearance at Capricon, the Chicago area’s only four-day science fiction conference. It’s an experiment for Turntabling–there’s no telling how many vinyl junkies or genre fans (outside sci-fi) will be there, but it’s a lot of fun running the Turntabling table at shows so it’s an experiment worth doing.

Come visit the Turntabling table at Capricon this weekend, February 11-14 located at the Westin Chicago North Shore:

601 North Milwaukee Avenue, Wheeling, IL 60090

Lost Highway Soundtrack CD

February 5, 2010 For Sale No Comments

Lost Highway Soundtrack CD

Lost Highway is one of the best soundtracks in the David Lynch film catalog. Some Lynch fans will scream “blasphemy!” as Julee Cruise is forever the favorite among the Twin Peaks set, but Lost Highway is something else altogether. From the Angelo Badalamenti tracks to Lou Reed’s version of “This Magic Moment”, Lost Highway does not let up–it’s great from start to finish.

Standout tracks on this include Dub Driving, the fun Mister Eddy Theme, and the Smashing Pumpkins electronica track, Eye

Even the Rammstein tracks fit the bill, and Lynch got some great material out of Marilyn Manson. “Apple of Sodom” is as far away from the scream-and-scrape metallic thud of AntiChrist Superstar-era Manson as it gets.

There’s also some excellent atmosphere provided by Trent Reznor–one track where Lynch said to Reznor, “I want it to sound like snakes coming out of the speakers” is fantastic…in spite of the fact that Reznor’s reply to Lynch was basically, “Leave me alone, I don’t work that way.” I think Lynch got what he wanted, regardless.

The Lost Highway CD is a new, sealed compact disc. Buy it now from Turntabling while supplies last for $15 plus shipping. Overseas shipping on this item is $10.

The Prisoner File #1: Soundtrack Music from the Original Series

February 1, 2010 For Sale No Comments

the prisoner file #1 soundtrack music

Ron Grainer’s oddball surf guitar sounds defined an entire television show with his opening and closing theme to the original version of The Prisoner. Thanks to this most excellent collection you get Grainer’s genius plus music from three of the greatest episodes; Arrival, Chimes of Big Ben, and the most excellent A, B and C. This is the music you want to hear as you drive to work to give your two weeks’ notice, load up the car after breaking off a particularly nasty relationship, or just relive one of the greatest television paranoia-fests in history.

DJs will be pleased that there are sample-a-rific dialogue snippets and there are even some unused tracks on this compilation. From the lounge jazz to some of stock library cues, this has a great cross sections of moods and atmospheres. Put on your black jacket, a defiant look, and fight the power! Who is Number One? Why, YOU are, of course.

A Fistful of Soundtracks

December 28, 2009 Blogs, Featured No Comments

a fistful of soundtracks blogJimmy J. Aquino is a busy guy. He programs an internet radio station full of soundtrack music, does graphic novel work and runs A Fistful of Soundtracks which is heavy on the graphic novel stuff (Aquino’s Death to Skinny Jeans) but also full of soundtrack, television and cinema talk.

We’re new to this blog, but digging it very much. Highlights include a great discussion of the Superfly soundtrack (plus the awesome image below–we did NOT take this, the image is courtesy A Fistful of Soundtracks. Kudos to Jimmy Aquino–this is a worthy fellow soundtrack blog and the latest addition to the Turntabling blog roll. RECOMMENDED!

Goblin Television Appearances

December 3, 2009 Media No Comments

goblin logo
This may be old news to some Goblin fans but it never occurred to some of us here to do a YouTube search on Goblin to see what kind of television appearances they made to promote the work they did for Argento and others. And what a treasure trove of retro television this clip is! Cheesy hair, goofy stage presentations (love the red boots, lads) and the Jimmy Page double neck guitar all prog bands were required by law to have in at least one stage of their career arc. … Continue Reading
