The Turntabling Collection is our ever-growing curated vinyl record collection–some of which goes up for sale to finance the site and help our fellow vinyl junkies fill holes in their collections. Here’s the latest, and don’t forget that every time you buy vinyl from The Turntabling Collection, you’re not just buying rare, hard-to-find, or just plain cool vinyl records and CDs–you’re also helping to keep Turntabling alive and kicking. Thank you for your continued support!

Various – Aquarius Rock: The Hip Reggae World Of Herman Chin-Loy (Double vinyl LP)

A double LP compilation of reggae sounds including Augustus Pablo, Herman, The Aquarians, and many others. There’s a definite obsession with dub and reggae round the Turntabling office and this record is two slabs of awesome.

Sound Dimension Mojo Rocksteady Beat (Double vinyl LP)

Soul Jazz presents Sound Dimension doing two albums worth of rock steady reggae. If you know Soul Jazz, chances are good that you’d be willing to take a chance on this unheard and unseen–as we did. The Sound Dimension are described as the overseas equivalent to Booker T and the MGs or The Funk Brothers–they did the same kind of daily grind studio session work. Hear them in top form here…

Billion Dollar Brain Original Soundtrack Vinyl LP

Richard Rodney Bennett’s soundtrack for the Michael Caine spy thriller. Some people are completely into this soundtrack, while others are completely unaware of it. It’s a bit overly symphonic in places, but the tracks Anya and Love Scene are Morricone-esque enough to get the attention of Maestro fans, and that’s good enough for us! Nice stuff indeed.

Francesco De Masi Inglorious Bastards Soundtrack Vinyl LP (Quel Maledetto Treno Blindato)

This is NOT the soundtrack for the Quentin Tarantino movie Inglorious Basterds. Instead, what we have here is a sealed, new reissue on Get Back Records of the ORIGINAL movie Inglorious Bastards, directed by Enzo Castellari, with soundtrack music by Francesco De Masi. Italian soundtrack lovers, here’s a treat for you!

Again, when you buy from The Turntabling Collection, you’re supporting the site directly, so thank you for choosing Turntabling. There is much more to choose from, these are just some of the latest additions.

The Turntabling Collection is a large, ever-growing vinyl collection curated by Turntabling. Portions of the collection go on sale to fund Turntabling.net and the Vinyl Road Rage trips that are well documented here. If you buy anything from The Turntabling Collection, you’re doing more than just filling a hole in your record collection; you’re also contributing to the site, helping us stay alive and online. Thank you!

And if you happen across this post to find these albums already sold out, please have a look at the Turntabling Collection for sale via Discogs.com. There are also select titles from the Turntabling Collection via the Turntabling Etsy shop.

The latest for-sale additions to The Turntabling Collection include the following must-have vinyl LPs:

Halloween II Soundtrack LP by John Carpenter

John Carpenter’s sequel to the original creepy classic is every bit as good, but in totally different ways. This soundtrack LP is highly sought after and with good reason–Carpenter couldn’t really go wrong at this stage in the game.

If you haven’t seen the movie in a while, have another look. Donald Pleasence is fantastic as the obsessed Dr. Loomis, and he really winds up giving the business to The Shape at the end–one of the most memorable takedowns in horror movie history.

Plan 9 From Outer Space Soundtrack Vinyl LP

How FUN is this record? For some Ed Wood fiends, you’ve got an instant party when you drop the needle. But the album sounds are only part of the fun. The packaging for this includes Bela Lugosi glowering at you from one side of the record, and Tor Johnson grimacing from the other.

So yes, this record is suitable for framing. As much as the idea makes some collectors cringe, it’s certain there ARE people out there who would rather display the Plan 9 From Outer Space soundtrack album on the wall instead of taking it for a spin on the turntable.

It’s hard to blame them when you see Lugosi’s face on the record, it really is…

The Glove Blue Sunshine Vinyl LP (SEALED)

It’s probably rare enough that you’d find a copy of this in decent condition to begin with, to find a SEALED copy of Blue Sunshine by The Glove is pretty amazing. This collaboration between The Cure’s Robert Smith and Souxsie and The Banshees’ Steve Severin is essential listening.

If you liked either group, The Glove is a worthy footnote in the history of both acts. If you aren’t convinced, there are several YouTube clips to sample, here’s just one of them–a great collision of Souxsie/Cure styles.

Nashville has no shortage of record stores, for obvious reasons, and when you hit turn down Broadway you will find more vinyl than you can shake a record needle at.

Lawrence Record Shop at 409 Broadway in Nashville is so large that you might actually stop and stare with your mouth open for a moment–it’s 180 feet of wall-to-wall LPs and 45s. It’s an impressive collection of vinyl, and it seems to stretch on to infinity when you’re standing in the front of the store for the first time.

As you might guess, this store is overwhelmingly country-oriented. Just look at this row of vinyl records stretching all the way to the back of the shop, and yes–they’re ALL country:

Turntabling isn’t realllly interested in country music. In fact you might say that thanks to a childhood filled with mandatory AM radio listening crammed wall-to-wall with Ray Stevens, Ronnie Milsap, and the cringe-making ever-present Oak Ridge Boys, there’s a definite ALLERGY to country round the old Turntabling office.

But since WTF album covers are a passion round here, country records must not be overlooked–and with so many twangy LPs on hand it’s damn near impossible NOT to find a good variety of laugh-inducing album art.

Lawrence Record Shop is not only a great place for country vinyl collectors to fill the gaps in their collections, it’s also a Mecca of mind-numbing WTF album covers.

In the midst of all this, there was a decently sized soundtrack section which featured some eyebrow-raising titles including The Dark Crystal, the soundtrack for the Irwin Allen laugh-fest The Swarm, and even a copy of Buck Rogers In The 25th Century.

This store is definitely worth a look in, even if you’re just a curiosity seeker who hates the sound of a twangy guitar. It’s right next door to the legendary Ernest Tubb Record Shop, so chances are you were headed to that part of town anyway if you’re not from Nashville.

While it’s true that some would say that the t-shirt message, “Nash Vegas” is precisely what’s WRONG with Nashville, you can’t deny that the southern-friend veneer of Broadway in general is pretty fun–at least as a mere country music tourist, more than amused at the down-home quality of the genre. Sorry folks, give me technology, city noise and scary movies with subtitles.

I shudder to think what the locals make of the Nash Vegas notion, but who knows? Maybe everyone in town is all about the cowboy boots and a ten-gallon hat. I somehow doubt it, if Jack White’s Nashville-based Third Man Records is any indication. White might have allied himself with one of country music’s darlings, but I view their work together more like southern gothic, for some reason.

There’s definitely much more to Nashville than Ernest Tubb…but as my first stop on the Nashville leg of Vinyl Road Rage it was pretty fun to enter the honky tonk heart of darkness–briefly.

There’s been such a great, positive response to the vinyl and CDs I sell at Horrorhound Weekend, Flashback, and elsewhere that it seems like the right time to expand the amount of stuff I’m bringing to the shows and the number of shows I bring it to.

That’s why I’m very pleased to be part of two new-to-me shows. Dark Carnival in Bloomington, Indiana is one I’m catching in October (details below) and I just committed to doing Days of the Dead in Atlanta in March 2012.

Cinema Wasteland, September 30 – October 2 2011 in Strongsville Ohio. It’s at the Holiday Inn at 15471 Royalton Road in Strongsville.

Dark Carnival Film Festival, October 21-23 2011 in Bloomington, Indiana. For ticket and location info call (812) 323-3020

Horrorhound Weekend November 11-13 2011 in Cincinnati Ohio. This one is at the Crowne Plaza Hotel 11320 Chester Road.

Capricon is a fun sci-fi show in Wheeling, Illinois held February 9-12 2012. I had a table two years ago and the experience was a lot of fun, so I look forward to getting back there for another go in 2012. This year Turntabling plans to co-host a party room and there should be a lot of mischief, mayhem and fun. Did I mention there will be an open bar?

Days of the Dead Atlanta is March 9-12 2012. This is my first Days of the Dead show so I look forward to getting to meet a lot of you who haven’t made it to the shows I normally do because they’re so far away. Turntabling will bring hundreds of rare, weird, sought-after and collectible records and if you’re in the Altanta area, you should NOT miss this show. Sid “Captain Spaulding” Haig is already confirmed for this show and word has it he’ll be taking photos in the makeup again. Yes, you need to be at this show!

As always, thanks for your support at these shows–I really love meeting people who read the blog and vinyl junkies in general. Thank you!

Three The Hard Way featured the triple threat of Fred Williamson, Jim Kelly, and Jim Brown…with a lot of excellent music from The Impressions.

The movie is hilarious–the villian is the same guy who played Doctor Shrinker on Saturday morning TV, which makes every one of his scenes 100% more fun to watch. The premise of this movie is basically that a villian named Feather (yes, really) wants to create a virus that will selectively wipe out only one portion of mankind. Guess which portion a crazy white guy with sinister eyebrows wants to get rid of?

Jim Kelly and company bust heads and take out the bad guys, naturally.

My favorite thing about the movie-aside from, well, everything else, is that the soundtrack basically describes the entire plot of the movie. All the lyrics tell you everything you need to know about the movie–awesomeness abounds.

It’s a shame these three guys didn’t do about 100 of these movies together, the chemistry is great and they would have made an excellent series of crazy-ass movies. Sure, this movie has its share of filler, but as an artifact of good old fashioned drive-in movie making, I give it two thumbs way up…and the Three The Hard Way soundtrack is 100% pure gold.

Check out this clip from Three The Hard Way, with Jim Kelly giving a racist cop the business–and groove to that sitar-drenched soundtrack!
