Batman Soundtrack by Prince

batman soundtrack by Prince

The way I heard it back in the day, Prince was asked to write a few tunes for the Tim Burton Batman movie,  but Prince flipped out and wrote an entire album’s worth of material. Who cares if it’s true? It’s a great story and I can just see him sweating over those synths trying to capture the essence of Bruce Wayne and the caped crusader with no thought at all about how the tracks might fit into the final movie.

The Prince Batman soundtrack has a few EXCELLENT tracks, including The Future, and of course, Batdance, which samples Jack Nicholson howling “This town needs an enema!” How can you go wrong? Lemon Crush is pretty sweet, too.

The Deadly Spawn Soundtrack CD

Now selling here at Turntabling–a very limited number of copies of The Deadly Spawn OST CD…this fun 80s horror anomaly was one of my holy grail movies–I had read about it as a kid in Fangoria magazine, had ogled the bloody pics of the Deadly Spawn special effects, and just never got a chance to view it in all its great, cheesy 80s glory until I tracked it down years later in a video rental store in Japan, of all places.

Of course, the version I got was called Return of the Aliens’ Deadly Spawn…no cash in attempts THERE, eh? It was also released as Return of the Aliens: The Deadly Spawn.

I’ve got a very small number of The Deadly Spawn soundtrack CDs for sale here while supplies last, and for collectors and a few rabid fans of the movie, it’s worth its weight in gold. Or at least, chesse. Who doesn’t love those synth sounds? I only wish I could land a gig scoring movies like this for quick cash–I’ve got the synthesizer gear and a penchant for toothy aliens!

Phenomena OST by Goblin–The Complete Goblin Instrumental Soundtrack CD

Phenomena Soundtrack Goblin Cinevox cd

Goblin’s original soundtrack for Dario Argento’s Phenomena is on sale here at Turntabling while supplies last. This one is getting scarce, order while you can!

Dario Argento made Phenomena in that strange mid-eighties twilight zone of horror movie releases–the genre was expanding beyond the cliches of the 60s and 70s and everything seemed to be up for grabs both plotwise and from a musical and visual standpoint.

The camerawork on Phenomena and Goblin’s moody soundtrack are good examples of the best of the era. Argento got interesting, quirky performances out of Jennifer Connelly and Donald Pleasence, and Daria Nicolodi’s turn as the mother of a twisted creature kept chained in a basement is as trippy as you’d expect it to be.

The music for this one is great–Goblin shows off yet another side of their multiple musical personalities, managing to cram some operatic vocalizations into an electro/dancefloor sounding score–and for once, the opera-style vocals actually work.

If you haven’t seen this slice of mid-80s Italian horror, you owe it to yourself to catch up, and fast. Jennifer Connelly might be embarrassed by this early effort (has she said so one way or the other?) but for fans of all things Argento (and Goblin) this is great stuff. Just don’t expect any of it to make sense (except as dream logic) and you’ll do fine.

Phenomena was released in a butchered version in the USA called Creepers, but thanks to several sources you can see it in its uncut glory the way it was intended.

The Erotic and Painful Obsessions of Jess Franco

The Erotic and Painful Obsessions of Jess FrancoTurntabling has gotten in quite a few erotica and softcore soundtrack titles lately, but The Erotic and Painful Obsessions of Jess Franco combines horror and softcore to great effect. This CD is a collection of three Jesse Franco soundtracks by Gerarh Heinz, who is a favorite on the Turntabling speakers.

Things get started nicely with the soundtrack to Lolita Am Scheidweg, also known as Eugenie. Next is the OST for Franco’s Bloody Moon, which has a couple of startlingly disco-fied cuts, but gets into some slightly Goblin-esque  euro-horror territory with Die Sage des Todes suite. Giorgio Moroder fans will be pleased by Disco Alternativ, and when the disc finally heads into the home stretch with the softcore OST for Linda, we’re almost in Morricone territory with Die Madchen im Kloster and Im Strandcafe.

A little bossa, a little horror, some disco…what’s not to love about The Erotic and Painful Obsessions of Jess Franco? This is easily one of the most enjoyable titles we carry.

The Erotic and Painful Obsessions of Jess Franco is a new, sealed CD. Buy it now for $18.00 US plus shipping.
