Smashing Time Soundtrack Vinyl LP Rita Tushingham Lynn Redgrave

Swinging London…we miss you! It didn’t last very long, but the phenomenon spawned countless movies and even more albums. Smashing Time starred Rita Tushingham and Lynne Redgrave as a couple of fish-out-of-water girls who have just arrived on the scene in Swinging London and try to make the best of having no money and nowhere to go.

It’s a Willy Wonka-style adventure without all the candy and child endangerment. Instead you get sexual coming-of-age, the music industry, and mod parties.

Smashing Time is sort of a cross between a 1967 time capsule and longform Carnaby Street music video. This movie is definitely a source text for the Austin Powers spoofs, and while parts of the movie are fairly insufferable, as a cultural artifact it’s fun to watch. Swinging London collectors and memorabilia junkies should definitely own the soundtrack album.

Game of Death Soundtrack LP by John Barry

The Game of Death soundtrack by John Barry is just plain awesome. John Barry is a Turntabling favorite thanks to a Morricone-esque sensibility when it comes to blending symphonic instruments with a more mod 60s/70s groove. Barry had a hand in some of the best-known soundtracks of the day, including Bond films, that goofy 70s remake of King Kong, The Deep, Walkabout, and the Bruce Lee martial arts classic The Game of Death.

Dagored did an amazing job with this release, from the super-tasty 180-gram vinyl pressing to the gatefold sleeve art. This is a collector-friendly album for those reasons alone, but the sounds on this OST are awfully sweet. If you can’t get enough of those 70s soundtrack sounds, this is a must-own.

Turntabling offers a single copy of The Game of Death–a shrink-wrapped, still-sealed vinyl record. Buy it now from Turntabling for $30 plus shipping. The Game of Death ships internationally, and while we’ve calculated the shipping costs, they are based on weight and destination and may require additional postage–we’ll invoice you for any excess needed, and refund where necessary.

The Grasshopper Original Soundtrack LP Jacqueline Bisset

There is something about those 60s and 70s movies with sex themes that some–Turntabling including–really love. The plot of The Grasshopper is pretty standard stuff, the progression of a liberated woman through sexually challenging scenarios and general life drama. But these movies always have a certain something (and plenty of enjoyable cheese to boot) that makes ’em worth a watch.

The soundtracks to movies like The Grasshopper are almost always peppered with groovy/funky interludes, plus some nice Morricone-influenced swells and such. Check the middle part of the trailer for some nice fuzzed out 70s guitar action…you’ll see. That sort of thing is right up our alley here and helps forgive/overlook the cheesed out “Look Again” track (more on that in a moment).

Apparently The Grasshopper has a bit of a following–on YouTube people rave about it. The cover art pretty much sums up this movie, and for the time it was released that artwork is pretty edgy, as you can see.

The theme for the trailer (see below) is by The Brooklyn Bridge. “Look Again” sounds like pretty schmaltzy stuff, but some really dig it. The same people probably dig the theme from Ode To Billy Joe or the theme from Billy Jack. If that’s you, don’t let this pass you by. The Grasshopper soundtrack is available here–we have a single copy in stock. When it’s gone, it’s gone!

To Live and Die In LA Original Soundtrack Wang Chung

Say what you will about the rest of Wang Chung’s output in the 80s.  This soundtrack is top notch–a doomy-yet-pop-friendly piece of moody synth goodness that matches the nihilism of the movie.

To Live And Die In LA was a William Friedkin cops-gone-bad actionfest and while the years have not been kind to the film, it still retains some of its original power, especially the ending.

Wang Chung’s score for this really make the movie what it is. There are some good performances by William Peterson and John Pankow, but Willem Dafoe steals the show as the forger/art obsessive trying to stay one step ahead of the law.

Soundtrack fans should already own a copy of To Live And Die In LA, but many don’t for some reason…for shame! Turntabling has a SEALED, unopened copy of this great record for sale–first come, first served. Check out the trailer below and you’ll remember how awesome everyone thought this movie was when it first hit the screens back in the 80s…it’s still a good watch, if you can forgive a bit of the dated feel of this one.

This is a SEALED and UNOPENED vinyl record. The LP cover has a crease in the lower left corner which will not affect the vinyl or playback.
