Pink Filth Sugar Shock Limited Edition LP NOW ON SALE

Pink-Filth-Sugar-Shock

Now on sale at Turntabling, the legendary Texas bubblewave power pop combo PINK FILTH’s Sugar Shock LP. This is a very rare, limited edition slice of genuine Texas pop goodness.

Riff Rambo, Nick Velvet, and Baby Jessica deliver the goods on this candy-coated slab of vinyl deliciousness on sale here for the first time–and VERY difficult to find anywhere. It’s NOT available on CD or MP3, so this fun, bouncy record is an excellent buy while supplies last.

Regionally known in Texas for crazy, glittery live performances, the album captures all the fun of the live shows but studio crafted to perfection. Standout tracks include I (heart) Plastic Bags, the laid back-but-groovy TV Screen, and the unofficial theme song for Turntabling Records, Vinyl Junkie, which is worth the entire price of the LP–this song ROCKS, and totally describes what Turntabling is all about in the process–we can’t help ourselves!

Sadly, this is currently the only vinyl LP available for Pink Filth since the awesome Seventeen Bubblegum Smashes has been long out of print. If you ever find a copy of  THAT one, buy it immediately and revel in it. You’re one of the few.

Sugar Shock is one of the major highlights of  Texas indie music vinyl releases from the 2000 decade. Get it while you can!

Pink Filth Sugar Shock LP

Many moons ago I posted about my old band mates, Pink Filth and the vinyl-only 17 Bubblegum Smashes. I’d forgotten that before I came into the fold, the Pink Filth crew put out this vinyl album, Sugar Shock. You can hear the title track in all its glory, but this one really is a lot more fun in its original format on the turntable. This album is sadly out of print. Another one that is out of print is one I have been dying to hear ever since the days I played with the group on stage, The Minnesota Fats Domino Theory Of Relativity 7-inch on pink vinyl.

Oh, and you just have NOT lived unless you’ve seen Pink Filth doing Dancing Queen live…those days are gone forever, but the memories live on. You can see what some of the old Filthers are up to these days at Socket Sounds, home of Hyperbubble. I also stumbled across this review of the old 17 Bubblegum Smashes LP, at a blog called Crud Crud and while the review itself is older than dirt, this blog is still in existence, I am happy to say. Its aesthetics mirror my own in many ways. I just became an instant fan of Crud Crud. Bravo!

Sadly Sold Out: Seventeen Bubblegum Smashes by Pink Filth

While it’s true that I was a member of the Texas bubble-wave band Pink Filth in 2001 until it dissolved, I didn’t actually record much with the group. We played tons of live shows, and if memory serves I had a songwriting credit or two, but when Seventeen Bubblegum Smashes came out, I wasn’t even in the picture. Too bad, as this album is so much fun…great versions of Quick Joey Small, Box on Wheels, and Chewy Chewy just to name a few.

You can find this oddity only as a used item in some San Antonio and Austin record shops, but if you can locate it, it is well worth the price. I own this one, but can’t get in touch with the other Pink Filthers to post an MP3 for you to sample. The moment they say yes, I will. Normally my policy is to post an MP3 as a promo for the bands and remove upon request, but my friends in the ‘Filth have always preferred to be asked first on the good old stuff like this. Can’t say I blame them when it’s an album of covers, but the world really should hear this record.
