Because Sound Matters $1000 Vinyl LP Giveaway

Warner Brothers Vinyl Giveaway

Because Sound Matters, the Warner Bros. vinyl store, is giving away a whopping $1000 worth of vinyl records in a contest running until December 24th.

The Rules: create an account at Because Sound Matters, fill out a two line contest form with your name and valid e-mail address, and you’re automatically entered into the Holiday Vinyl Giveaway.

The Prize: a single winner gets a collection of vinyl including vintage Neil Young titles from ’69 and ’70 put out as part of the Neil Young Official Release series, a set of Metallica 45RPM limited edition box sets, the complete Oasis collection, three Nirvana albums, Wilco vinyl and plenty of other goodies.

Free vinyl is always a good thing, even if you’re no fan of Metallica (especially Death Magnetic–yuck–, though the limited edition 180 gram vinyl set of …And Justice For All does not suck one little bit). The prize package is eclectic enough to entice some of us to sign up (yes, it’s true–at least one of us) and the Neil Young four disc set is enough to warrant a look all by itself.

Truly, this prize collection lacks a few things. It would be well spiced up with the addition of The Flaming Lips collection, the Watchmen soundtrack and the Danny Elfman Corpse Bride LP…but I suppose one can’t have EVERYTHING.

If you are intrigued by the possibility of winning 30 vinyl LPs, some of which are nice, limited editions and at least one signed-by-the-band LP, have a look, register and sign up to enter the Because Sound Matters Holiday Vinyl Giveaway. You’ve only got until December 24th, so no procrastinating.

John Carpenter Escape From New York Soundtrack CD

John Carpenter Escape from New York Soundtrack CDNOW SELLING AT TURNTABLING: The one and only Escape From New York soundtrack, now on affordable CD for your listening enjoyment. Yes, we do carry the Dagored Records vinyl version of this awesome synth-heavy soundtrack written and performed by John Carpenter, but for those reading Turntabling who love CDs and can’t be bothered with vinyl (yes, they are out there believe it or not) this is the release of the year.

Escape From New York is full of lovely vintage synth, sound clips from the movie, and is just plain fun to listen to again and again. It’s one of our favorite soundtracks and Carpenter outdoes himself here. Escape From New York is far more listenable than the Halloween soundtrack, though we’re sure some will call us blasphemers for saying so. No matter–this disc is amazing.

The Escape From New York soundtrack is a brand new, sealed compact disc on sale now for $18.00 plus shipping. Overseas shipping is $13.

Not sure you want to buy this one yet? Here’s a lovely little clip from the film that might change your mind:

Weekend of Holiday Horror Fun

It was a very busy time last week prepping for the Holiday of Horror show at the Portage Theater here in Chicago–the last Horror Society blowout for 2009. Thanks to all who came out, it was a fantastic time! Turntabling debuted scary tees from StrangerTees.com, and sold plenty of Goblin albums and other fun stuff.

The updates start rolling around here as per usual now that we’re no longer scrambling to get things prepped for the show. There’s a whole new year of craziness coming, and Turntabling is ready. Brace yourself! We’ve got new titles rolling onto the site this week, and we’ll have a few other fun announcements too.

WTF: Bad Album Art Doublevision

Bad album covers seem even worse when they’re foisted on unsuspecting record buyers by people who market their music using only their first name. What possesses people to release songs under ONE NAME ONLY? No ideas here, but I can tell you the one-name LP is a recipe for disaster. Today we bring you not one, but TWO abominations for the price of one. Behold the horror that is…KEN and JOYCE.
