The Mood Mosiac Series

The Mood Mosaic is a GREAT series of CDs and LPs that feature groovy, funky tracks and some sexy cover art that for some vinyl collectors is the sole motivation for buying the picture disc versions of the albums. I’m a big fan of picture discs in general, and the artwork for these is fairly well done, albeit with a 60’s-era Playboy Mansion sensibility that won’t agree with everybody. The best picture disc of the bunch is the one for the release titled The Hashish Party, with its retro funky body paint motif.

The music on these is great. Any fan of the Easy Tempo series, 70s action movie funk soundtracks, Mystic Moods Orchestra, and soul grooves will find a lot to love with these releases. There are picture disc versions of some, but not all of the titles; you can still find them for sale online at places like Amazon and on Discogs.com. These were made between 1997 and 2011, and there are (at the time of this writing) 14 titles in all.

I’ve got quite a few of these, but alas, not for sale–personal collection titles only! I am looking to buy more of these, so if you have them for sale, do get in touch: jwallace242@gmail.com

Music of Mind Control Podcast

Just discovered (by me): an utterly fascinating podcast called The Music Of Mind Control. It’s hard to believe there’s so much of this stuff out there, but there is and a great deal of it is on vinyl. I don’t know whether Amy Kelly and the other contributors are vinyl collectors or just compile the music as they find it, but oh WOW I hope this podcast continues for a long time to come. As in, forever.

The podcast is dedicated to “the wonderful world of organizations and religious cults that practice mind control techniques and the weird, awful music they produce.” Amy, you have my full attention. You can download Episode Four and experience this with me–I’m devouring this even as I type.

Bad Albums, WTF Records Wanted

Turntabling is once again on a bughunt for the weirdest vinyl records and worst album covers ever. I am very interested in purchasing weird vinyl records, especially spoken word albums.

I have a special love for insanely dated, horribly intolerant, misguided, wrongheaded, and just plain WTF vinyl. From those “adults only” records that used to be sold under the counter at truck stops all across America to the worst TV preacher insanity committed to vinyl, I will buy these regardless of condition.

If you have anything resembling the records described above, or have something so bewildering that you just can’t believe it was ever pressed to vinyl, do get in touch: jwallace242@gmail.com.

I am always happy to review lists of vinyl for sale or get links to vinyl blogs, etc. Thanks much in advance for contacting me on any/all of the above.

Another Crazy Vinyl Blog

…in this case that is quite literally the name of the blog, and I am an absolute sucker for stuff like this. Another Crazy Vinyl Blog is recently updated, has a nice back catalog of posts to browse through, and not crammed full of the same old album covers that have made the rounds again and again.

This is a new discovery of mine and I’m looking forward to diving in to see what mad treasures await. I DID find one cover on this site that appears to feature a nude Judy Collins…no, strike that, it DOES feature a nude Judy “Send In The Clowns” Collins. The image below is courtesy of Another Crazy Vinyl Blog. Judy Collins fans, avert your eyes!

Yes, Another Crazy Vinyl Blog is among my latest vinyl-bloggin’ obsessions. THANK YOU FOR EXISTING!
