Battlestar Galactica Bloopers

battlestar-galactic-sountrack-album

Any film or video clips from the deliciously cornball 1970s floating around the net is of at least passing interest–after all, 70s merchandising madness insured that EVERYTHING had a soundtrack album for sale. Even Battlestar Galactica saw one released. Composed by none other than Stu Phillips, this was actually remastered and re-released just in case you need to relive the days where everybody was desperately trying to cash in on the Star Wars craze.

Can’t decide whether you really, really need to own this soundtrack or not? Click the YouTube vid below to get pushed off the fence one way or another. This is a goofy collection of bloopers and other gaffes from the original 70s bad hair series by Glen A. Larson…amusing, goofy, pure cotton candy for the brain. You’re welcome,

Andy Warhol’s Vinyl

Turntabling.net is many things, including a record label and a blog about vinyl albums and related ephemera. This one falls squarely into the “related ephemera” category. Andy Warhol’s Vinyl was loosely based on A Clockwork Orange, and while he might have been exploring similar themes, this one looks a lot more like deleted scenes from Night of the Living Dead (don’t ask me why) than the Kubrick movie.

This feature-length Warhol stars several well-known regulars including Gerard Malanga, Edie Sedgwick, and Ondine. This clip does feature the use of an actual vinyl record (not that I’m THAT geeked out, mind you, just a bit of trivia) and Edie Sedgwick smoking. Some people get all excited about that sort of thing, so there you go.

Are Newspapers the New Vinyl?

vinyl-albums-and-newspapersEdward J. Delaney asked this question in a summertime blog post last year–one I’m only catching up to now. He compares vinyl–once discarded as useless by audiophiles–to newspapers. The implication is that perhaps newspapers will have a similar renaissance once most of the big boys have folded.

A better comparison would be to compare newspaper companies to their major label counterparts in the music industry. Both are clueless about the power of the Internet, both are in trouble, both have limited futures unless they can change with the times. The majors have made more inroads on this front than the newspapers. Imagine a major label with a head executive in charge of decision making where bands are concerned saying they aren’t literate about the net!

That very thing happened last summer when a Chicago Tribune editor admitted on television that he didn’t understand the Internet. Why that guy wasn’t fired immediately, I will never know.

Check out Is The Newspaper The New Vinyl Album for additional discussion. Me personally, I think vinyl is here to stay, but newspapers aren’t.

Seeking Hot Deals on New Vinyl Albums

vinylalbum

My job as editor of CheapToday.com gives me the chance to do something really cool–I get to search high and low for bargains and hot deals on products that I’d actually (and often do) purchase. There’s an entertainment section on Cheap Today that is woefully under-served in the vinyl department. As in, there are NO DEALS on vinyl records there.

With so many new groups putting out music on vinyl, the thought occurs that there MUST be people out there selling records at discount prices. New vinyl doesn’t stay in the “brand new” bins forever, so where do they go when they go on sale?

I’d LOVE to plug deals on vinyl albums on Cheap Today, and while I don’t think I’ll ever find enough to create an entire section dedicated to LP deals, there’s already an entertainment section that such things would fit nicely into.

I’m currently in search of any vendors of new vinyl who sell over the internet, offer reliable customer service and order fufillment and have GOOD return policies who want to get in touch to let me know about any hot deals on vinyl records and related items. There are enough fans of the glorious album format to justify at least experimenting with putting up deals on vinyl. If you sell albums and offer deals on some or all titles, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me. Drop me a line:
