Eno Moebius Roedelius After The Heat 180 Gram Vinyl

after-the-heat-eno-cluster-mobius

I am not what you’d call an Eno completist, but I was quite pleased to find a vinyl copy of After The Heat, the collaboration between Eno, Roedelius and Moebius. This one’s from the late 70s and has plenty going for it, including an appearance by Holger Czukay from Can.  Ten cuts of Eno and Cluster playing the old studio games, very nice indeed. Some think this isn’t up to the Cluster and Eno challenge, but don’t let that stop you.

Sure, you could get this on CD, but on vinyl it’s a quite lovely artifact of its time on wax, no?

Back2Vinyl.com

Tonight I stumbled across Back2Vinyl.com, which features a great list of record collector shows for 2009. I am very pleased to have found this site and the convention list, as I had no idea about the Glass City Record Show in Toledo Ohio February 8 from 10-4.  I’m planning to hit that one, as well as the mighty Austin Record Convention April 3-5 in Texas. The Austin show is said to be the single largest sale of recorded music in America. Even if that’s just rhetoric, I can tell you from experience that it’s a hell of a show and you WON’T be disappointed. I began my vinyl obsession at the Austin show so it’s only fitting that I go back and cover it for Turntabling.net. See you there?

Back2Vinyl.com is a nice resource for vinyl info and resources. Quite tasty—I haven’t had time to go through it all! The links alone require much research.

Numark TTUSB Turntable

The Numark TTUSB turntable is a nice tool for converting your vinyl to MP3s.  I like the plug-n-play ease of using this USB turntable. It’s inexpensive, simple to use and will give you plenty of fun rediscovering the old vinyl you haven’t heard in ages. No, this isn’t really designed to be used as DJ gear, but you can certainly pad out your MP3 collection with the Numark TTSUB. Call it a DJ tool for home use only. I own one…and if I wanted to play DJ gigs with my vinyl collection, I’d break out a Technics. Sorry, DJ hopefuls—don’t take this out of the house. Why bother? Just convert your tastiest vinyl tracks to MP3, drop em to a nice big external hard drive or MP3 CD-R and be on your way. And yes, you can always burn a redbook format CD to gig with, too.

Harold and Maude Original Soundtrack on Vinyl

harold-and-maude

Aquarium Drunkard is raving about this. While Cat Stevens is more odious because of his “Kill Rushdie” utterances as an Islamic militant back in the late 80s (Is he still one? Who knows?) the vinyl in question is highly prized in some circles. Aquarium Drunkard reports the Cameron Crowe is responsible for this finally seeing the light of day…if you loved the movie, this might be worth a look in. It’s a limited edition–2500 copies according to the blog post. Collectors take note!

We found a listing for the Harold and Maude soundtrack LP on Amazon for a whopping $299…claiming to be an original, factory sealed pressing on blue vinyl. Buyer…beware? We don’t vouch for the veracity of this–but it IS available for sale. One copy only!
