WTF Vinyl Records: Erotica–The Rhythms Of Love (NSFW???)

Erotica The Rhythms of Love viny WTF records

Erotica the rhytms of love vinyl WTF
This allegedly erotic vinyl record features a mad bongo-playing nut case, a bit of heavy breathing, and what sounds like two people having a running-in-place contest on the creakiest bed in the universe.

“Erotica, The Rhythms Of Love” is a WTF record more or less infamous for its goofy journey “featuring the sounds and rhythm of love”. More like the sounds and rhythm of hippies riding in the Kentucky Derby, if you ask me. No matter–this album is worth having for the shrieking bongo player alone. How anybody was supposed to get their rocks off while that guy was hollering is a total mystery.

And somebody was amused enough to post a large chunk of this on Youtube, for which we are very grateful. I think. NSFW in as much as there is some lady breathing and rampant bedspring abuse.

The Undertones Teenage Kicks 7-inch EP

John Peel, already a legendary  DJ, plays Teenage Kicks twice in  a row in 1978. He would play this song often in the Fall of 1978 and throughout the rest of his career.  It would become known as one of his favorites.  A man known for his eclectic music taste, Peel had a special affinity for  the song, Teenage Kicks, one that endured almost thirty years after he first introduced the song to his listeners.

Out of all the music he brought to the radios of millions, John Peel’s gravestone has the lyric from Teenage Kicks – Teenage dreams so hard to beat. No annotation is needed, Peel fans know.

Though Peel doesn’t want to take all the credit in the clip above, record labels started to seek out the Derry quintet when the EP became part of his broadcast.  They were playing together years before in Northern Ireland, an area known more for unemployment and political struggle at the time then for music.

This is a well crafted collection of an experienced band nearly calling it quits. The world is a much better place because of these four songs – Teenage Kicks, True Confessions, Smarter Than U and Emergency Cases.

The 2008 7-inch SALVO EP is the official digital remastered 30th anniversary editions of the Good Vibrations EP that ended up on Peel’s turntable back 1978.  Turntabling has a copy of this limited edition release Teenage Kicks EP for sale –  (the image below is an example , our copy is #4670) first come first served.

Vinyl for Sale: Ascenseur Pour l’échafaud (Lift to the Scaffold) Soundtrack LP

Moody, desperate, and tragic, Miles Davis plays his trumpet to clips of the movie Ascenseur Pour l’échafaud (Lift to the Scaffold). Louis Malle’s  film noir outing is credited for advertising the beauty Jeanne Moreau to future directors of The New Wave.

The soundtrack follows her character around Paris at night as she searches for any news of her absent lover.

She’s involved in a murder plan, first involving, then complicated by a building closing down for the weekend. The thriller, also called Elevator to the Gallows, makes one wistful for some aspects of Paris in the ’50s. In this story, people actually weren’t keen on keeping the office open all the time.

The French in the ’50s were keen on Jazz. French film directors had a great time using  the art form for ambiance in night club scenes, to build energy in car chases, and to highlight the emotions of their stars.

Later in this clip, Louis Malle, the director, is interviewed about, Miles as a  music innovator and the icon’s participation in the film. This interview doesn’t include subtitles. Anyone can tell by his body language, Malle is more than pleased with the progress. They’re on the way to a great movie with an amazing soundtrack.
