Turntabling at Cinema Wasteland 2011 in Strongsville Ohio

Starting Wednesday, September 28 2011, Turntabling hits the road, bound for the mighty Cinema Wasteland horror convention in Strongsville Ohio.

The show doesn’t start until Friday, September 30th, but there is vinyl buying to be done, some sights in and around Cleveland to be taken in, and on Friday morning the Turntabling Collection needs to be unpacked and made ready for sale at the show.

There will be plenty of updates from Cinema Wasteland on Facebook. My personal FB page also doubles as the Turntabling page, friend me there and let’s get connected!

The image to the left here is more what more than 600 vinyl records looks like packed and ready for the road trip. That’s a whopping EIGHT CRATES of vinyl records. And there are also several crates full of rare and hard to find CDs, too.

If you’ve never attended Cinema Wasteland before, this is your best chance to date of seeing The Turntabling Collection in all its glory. Coil, Legendary Pink Dots, Skinny Puppy, rare Dr. Who vinyl, The Cure, Burroughs on vinyl, Lydia Lunch, J.G. Thirlwell, Sleep Chamber, too many other awesome groups to name all for sale on glorious vinyl records at the Turntabling table. And yes, there is plenty of Italian soundtrack music and related sounds, too.

That aside, Cinema Wasteland is one HELL of a show and this year there are too many amazing guests to name–do you want to meet the director of Basket Case, Frank Henenlotter? Dawn of the Dead’s David Emge? The awesome William Forsythe? Gunnar “Leatherface” Hansen? All scheduled to appear. There are plenty of screenings and other groovy good times there too…

The Turntabling Collection is not available for sale online during Cinema Wasteland as the ENTIRE STOCK is headed there for the show. The collection will be reposted for sale once Wasteland is over and the inventory has been updated.

As always, THANK YOU for your continued support of Turntabling. Every record or CD you purchase goes toward keeping the site alive and kicking, and it is definitely doing all that and more…thanks to you.

WTF Album Covers: Todd Rundgren

You have to hand it to Todd Rundgren–when he wants to bewilder, he REALLY GOES FOR IT.

I was surprised to learn this album came out in 2004. Liars by Todd Rundgren is a political statement to be sure, but this image of TR-i in flannel jammies and the Easter bunny getup make some run screaming back for the comfort of “Hello, It’s Me”.

But wait, there’s MORE! Todd Rundgren wasn’t content to play dress-up on the album cover…oh, no. Behold the wonder, the mystery, the sheer brain-rendingly odd vision of Rundgren singing God Said (not a bad track in that style, I might add) live (in Glasgow?). The set looks like a Gary Numan video, but Todd Rundgren himself is dressed like a French cabaret chanteuse. Or something. I love this. Let your freak flag fly, TR-i.

Turntabling Events and Appearances: Cinema Wasteland, Dark Carnival Film Festival, More

It’s the Halloween season now, time for lots of conventions. Which means Turntabling is hitting the road with The Turntabling Collection–over 600 rare, hard-to-find, out of print, and just plain lustworthy records and CDs.

You want Italian imports on the Dagored label? Got ’em. A sealed copy of the original Escape From New York soundtrack? Check. Goblin on CD? Got it. Riz Ortolani, Nico Fidenco, Ennio Morricone and more on vinyl? Yes indeed! Rare 80s slasher movie soundtracks? Bauhaus? Sleep Chamber? New Order? Legendary Pink Dots? This Mortal Coil? All included.

I repeat–more than 600 vinyl and CD titles from horror soundtracks, goth/industrial, Doctor Who on vinyl, bizarre vinyl, dub, experimental and much more.

Turntabling is coming to a horror or sci-fi convention near you, and I’ve had some updates to add since the last schedule post. I’m very happy to announce confirmation of our Turntabling table at the Flint Horror Con, and there are some dates in 2012 I’m working on–trying to decide between Chicon, the legendary Chicago sci-fi show or DragonCon in Atlanta next year. Who will win? Will keep you posted. Here is the latest schedule of appearances:

Cinema Wasteland, September 30 – October 2 2011 in Strongsville Ohio. It’s at the Holiday Inn at 15471 Royalton Road in Strongsville.

Dark Carnival Film Festival, October 21-23 2011 in Bloomington, Indiana. For ticket and location info call (812) 323-3020

Flint Horror Con October 29 2011. JUST ADDED! The Flint Horror Con is a one-day film festival in Flint, Michigan. It’s at the Masonic Temple at 755 S. Saginaw Street in downtown Flint. We’re very excited to be part of this one-day event which also features Tom Sullivan, and Wolfman Mac, the Michigan-based horror host of the nationally syndicated Chiller Drive-In.

Horrorhound Weekend November 11-13 2011 in Cincinnati Ohio at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 11320 Chester Road.

Capricon Wheeling, Illinois held February 9-12 2012. This year Turntabling will offer the Turntabling Collection at our vendor table, but we will also co-host a party room with music and a lot of mischief thanks to the free, tips-only open bar.

Days of the Dead Atlanta is March 9-12 2012. Our very first Days of the Dead show! Sid “Captain Spaulding” Haig has confirmed for Days of the Dead–one of the reasons I decided to book this one– and it should be an undead good time. Follow Sid at his official site.

Vinyl Blogs Worth Reading: OMG Vinyl

One of the dangers of being a vinyl junkie–especially one that loves old-school Italian soundtrack imports, industrial LPs and old KLF 12 inch singles–is that it’s easy to get lost in back catalog crate digging and forget about the large volumes of equally worthy vinyl being released today.

While nobody has the market cornered on reporting about new vinyl releases, it must be said that OMG Vinyl does a stellar job of covering the new stuff, and the writing is absolutely top-notch.

One of the best opening lines of any vinyl blog posts in recent memory comes from OMG’s coverage of new stuff by Four Tet; “We don’t post about techno 12?s much anymore, not in this economy. However, Four Tet’s Text label is pretty much impossible to ignore, easily releasing some of the best platters around featuring partners in crime like Thom Yorke and Burial…”

OMG Vinyl posts reviews, samples and news on the latest vinyl across a staggering variety of genres including noise, dub, and post-rock in addition to the usual suspects in the indie, hip-hop, garage and psych categories. It’s easy to get hooked on this site, especially when they’re posting new material by Four Tet and reviewing CASSETTE releases, too…recommended.
