Jim Jarmusch Only Lovers Left Alive Soundtrack LP

The movie was pretty amazing, but the soundtrack even more so for the Jim Jarmusch vampire opus Only Lovers Left Alive. DailyGrindHouse.com writer Sharon Gissy pretty much sums it all up nicely in her review; “…crumbling gothic scenery worthy of Jean Rollin, except it’s cleverly evoked by the exotic nightlife of Tangier and the hollowed-out ruins of Detroit.”

That imagery, coupled with a double LP’s worth of moody, atmospheric tracks by Jozef Van Wissem and Sqürl (some tracks written or co-written by Jarmusch himself) and you have a serious contender for “Soundtrack of the Year”.

I was lucky enough to find TWO copies of this, so one naturally wound up in my private collection, with the other copy of the double-vinyl Only Lovers Left Alive soundtrack now available to one lucky customer who gets to it first. It’s for sale from Turntabling via the Turntabling Discogs shop while supplies last.

If you haven’t seen this film yet, here’s another excerpt from Sharon Gissy’s insightful piece on Only Lovers Left Alive that might convince you to take a look:

“Jim Jarmusch is a personal and polarizing director; his fingerprints are visible in all his films. I can easily see some critics dismissing Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston driving by Jack White’s house in Detroit, or dancing to a Charlie Feathers record, as more hip but no less silly than the vampires in TWILIGHT listening to Debussy. However, by exposing himself so openly, Jarmusch manages to continue to connect to the rabid fan base who appreciates him, and they will certainly adore this smart, sexy take on the vampire genre.”

Bad Album Covers: Lionel Blair Aerobic Dancing

Lionel Blair Aerobic Dancing WTF album coversThere’s a combination of horrors on this album cover which all add up to WTF. At first glance I didn’t think this record artwork was SO very bad–it seems to be a typically cheesy 80s record. But the more I looked at it, the more I realized how much I was falling in love with its sheer awfulness.

The five-o’clock shadow on his goofy grinning face, the utterly horrifying white shorts (which seem to hint that they aren’t used to being on…for very long) and that enormous HELMET of hair…throw those tube socks into the mix and you have one great big ol’ WTF album cover.

P.S. HOW does ANYBODY do aerobics to the ET theme song?
