Back from HorrorHound in Cincinnati

Turntabling Records

The HorrorHound Weekend in Cincinnati was a huge success–many thanks to all who stopped by the Turntabling.net booth, especially for the lucky few who scored copies of the limited edition promo disc 13 Unusual Tracks. How much longer will we be offering this CD? Hard to say, but we’ll keep you posted for another opportunity to score your own copy soon.

We came to Cincinnati with an armload of soundtracks, great albums and other tasty treats–we left for home on Sunday much lighter–great music lovers cleaned us out! We have many revisions to make on the site to the catalog as much of our stock was depleted this weekend. More is coming, rest assured–but there’s much updating to be done in the meantime. Turntabling has a busy December lined up, there are details coming on Turntabling Records releases and other news that bring us into 2010 with a bang. Stay tuned.

Bad album covers Swing That Gospel Axe

I wonder if when gospel bands are praying to Jesus, if their lord and savior couldn’t take five seconds to have a word with them about their lame-ass album covers. I mean, come ON, now, Jesus…can’t you spare a COUPLE of moments for these poor dorks?

Let’s pass Go AND collect $200–the first thing this album cover says to me is that a slasher movie moment is in the offing here–the Gospel Axe is going to wind up in the back of that chick’s SKULL.

“Hey guys, what do you want to call this band?” Bruce Yelton asks the others. “We’re singin’ about Jesus here, so why don’t we give it some kind of dorky name that sounds like it’s SUPPOSED to be hip and happening, but is really some kind of dumb-ass made up word that doesn’t actually MEAN anything.”

To which the woman in this group replies, “You just said “dumbass”. You’re a sinner and you’re going to hell straightaway. The REST of this band is ‘upbound’ but not you.”

Turntabling Records Seeks 5 Bands for Compilation CD

Turntabling Records is looking for indie experimental/unclassifiable bands to submit tracks for consideration for the forthcoming CHEMICALLY ALTERED compilation CD. We need for five bands who play music in the same genre more or less as the Paisley Babylon tracks you can listen to on the Paisley Babylon MySpace page or at the Paisley Babylon ReverbNation page.

Bands who make the cut and wind up on the compilation get 25 physical copies of CHEMICALLY ALTERED to sell. Turntabling Records will mail 15 review copies to reviewers from each band’s mailing list–the band supplies the names and addresses from their PR mailing list and we do the rest. There is no cost to the bands for the pressing (Initial print run of 1000). though donations from rich bands are definitely welcome!

Turntabling makes the final call as to who is included in the comp but we aren’t seeking fame and fortune here–no chart-topping hits required–instead, we want to spread the word about unusual and interesting sounds.

Submit tracks by sending us a link to them in MP3 form to: jwallace242 (at) gmail (dot) com.

Your submission should be something that hasn’t appeared on other compilations and ideally not an album track–a B-side or custom recorded track would be much better. In the event you want to record something specifically for the CD, please send links to music representative of your work.

The Crazy Babysitter Twins from Grindhouse, Elvira, Kane “Jason” Hodder and many other well-loved horror movie names will be at HorrorHound Weekend this Friday through Sunday, November 20-22. And so will Turntabling–we’ll have a booth at the show featuring a great staggering pile of vinyl, CDs and yet another special, limited edition CD compilation of Turntabling Records singles from various releases including the as-of-yet not quite finished new Paisley Babylon album due out in Spring of 2010.
