Turntabling Records is at it again–this time with a brain-shreddingly unusual compilation of Chicago electronic music projects by Paisley Babylon, Savior Noise, Thelema USA, Satan’s Tea Boy and other acts featured on Electronic Sadism: A Chicago Compilation.
The 12 tracks available on the CD sampler are a strange mixture of Coil, Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire and Skinny Puppy textures. There are vintage-era industrial and ambient sounds combined with soundtrack-esque interludes, mellow meanderings, and nearly hallucinatory side-trips. But the ghost of the Marquis de Sade is always lurking nearby to bring you back to attention with a sonic blast of fury and chaos.
The packaging for this CD special edition is deceptively LP-sized, right down to a poly outer sleeve. But make no mistake, this is a compact disc full of electronics, evil and doubt (as Brian Eno would say). Going from wildly chaotic to strangely danceable, Electronic Sadism is a great birthday gift for the old-school industrial music fan in your life. Anybody who wishes for the good old days of Throbbing Gristle and Test Department should have a listen to this.
Turntabling Records, our Chicago-based microlabel, has released the first album by Electronic Penis Choppers (we can hear you snickering at the name already). Sex Music for H.P. Lovecraft is now available for Download and the group is already hard at work on a followup album.
Electronic Penis Choppers is working so hard, in fact, that it has whipped out (so to speak) a demo and music video for the newest track (which is NOT on the new album, we might add.)
The video for the demo, called Sex Bandsaw, features public domain video images from Eurohorror films and exploitation movies and while the band insists the track is a work in progress, it sounds pretty damn trippy regardless. Behold the video for Sex Bandsaw by Electronic Penis Choppers. Your stereo may never be the same. Electronic Penis Choppers will have a familiar ring to it for fans of Coil, Throbbing Gristle, The Orb and Apex Twin. The group doesn’t mind wearing its influences on their sleeves, that’s for certain.
It’s Halloween season again, which can only mean one thing–Paisley Babylon is back to creep you out electronically with a collection of way-out synth sounds. Yes, Paisley Babylon is the ‘house band’ of Turntabling.net, a chronically unclassifiable synth project running since 1996. Some have compared PB to Dark Side of the Moon-era Pink Floyd, while others say it sounds a lot like a collision between John Carpenter and Goblin.
It’s tough to say who’s right, but one thing’s for sure, this CD/MP3 download is definitely the right soundtrack for your next Halloween shindigm, especially for when you want to turn out all the lights and get down with the adult recreational activities. Sex music for mutants? That was one person’s description of Midnight Hallucinations. You be the judge.
