Schulmadchen Report Soundtrack LP: Gert Wilden

The sexy soundtracks of Eurotrash softcore sleaze movies from the 60s and 70s cannot be beat, and Schulmadchen Report is no exception. The SchoolGirl Report movies were made in Europe, exported to the American grindhouse circuit, and are now on DVD from Synapse films and Impulse Pictures. This soundtrack album features music from the first Schulmadchen Report plus a few other sexy German romps including Die dessierte Frau.

The movies themselves weren’t without controversey. According to one source, “In the United States, the films were released in grindhouses and drive-ins, and the names of the films were changed to conform to American standards. Because the films focused on young girls who may have been under legal age in this country, the Schoolgirl Report series was eventually suppressed.”

Whether or not that’s true, we don’t know–what we DO know is this is one hell of a soundtrack LP. It was released by Crippled Dick Hot Wax and features a gatefold sleeve with liner notes from Video Watchdog’s Tim Lucas, who always has plenty of insightful things to say–the liner notes alone are pretty amazing. On Gert Wilden’s music he says, “Wilden’s wholesome brand of psychedelia  made sexual activity seem adventurous and healthy…”

That observation alone should make curious soundtrack junkies reach for the record.

Check out the music on the fan-made video below–the song is the opening track on the album. We were completely sold on this from the second we heard it.

Electronic Penis Choppers Digital Single: The M Diary

Electronic Penis Choppers–one of the trouble-making side projects of Paisley Babylon. EPC plays coarser, more abrasive textures than Paisley Babylon–this is a band that likes its electronica sharp and spiky.

This particular digital single, The M Diary, is probably comparable to Wire at its most experimental–think of a more hyperactive and prickly “Small Electric Piece” from Wire’s 154 album crossed with some Musick to Play In The Dark -era Coil and you’ve got the right idea.

The M Diary features more than six minutes of captivating electronics, the creation of which were influenced by organic substances that should be hinted at rather than named.

The M Diary is as far away from smooth and mellow as it gets. How did this track get made at all considering the brain fuel involved?

No matter. Electronic Penis Choppers strikes again, with a very sharp object into your central nervous system. You won’t feel any pain when it goes in, you’ll just see blue flashes and wonder why the colors taste so funny.

Don’t be fooled by the false ending near the final section of the track–EPC brings back the metallic tones for one last bow before the track winds up. Wait for those skittering sounds to return before moving on to the next track.

Electronic Penis Choppers Digital Single: Android Sex Farm

Electronic Penis Choppers sound like a demented picnic between members of The Orb and Richard D. James, with Gillian Gilbert from New Order acting as referee. Don’t ask us what that’s supposed to mean, it’s just the mental picture that comes when Android Sex Farm is on.

EPC is a troublemaking little project from the same studio that spawns Paisley Babylon material. If Paisley Babylon is electronic music for isolation tank expeditions, Electronic Penis Choppers is what you’d want to be listening to on the dance floor after a nice long go on the nitrous oxide dispenser. The Orb, Aphex Twin and fans of The Other Two are all likely to enjoy this track, written at 2AM after a night of driving through Chicago city streets with headlights turned off and the stereo on full blast.

So yes, this is energetic chill-out music. Is that a contradiction? Perfect for post-club listening, Electronic Penis Choppers are carving out their own little niche with hallucinatory, laid back grooves. When you’ve had more than enough to drink but aren’t anywhere near ready for bed, this is the stuff.

Paisley Babylon Digital Single: Blood Alcohol Content .211

For fans of the more experimental side of The Legendary Pink Dots, this digital single from Paisley Babylon should be right up your alley. Anyone who owns the LPD albums Faces In The Fire or Shadow Weaver should give a listen to Paisley Babylon’s Blood Alcohol Content .211. There is a kindred spirit at work in these surrealist textures.

The analog synth sounds of the Roland Juno 1 and Juno 6 are on display here along with some trippy found sound and echo manipulation. There’s also an old analog Eventide Harmonizer played as an instrument, lending this track some delicious otherworldly textures.

Inspired by true events in San Antonio, this track speculates what it’s like to experience the aftermath of a car crash at extreme speeds at 3AM on a rain-swept  Texas highway. There is a definite LPD influence here, cross-pollinated with Throbbing Gristle and a dash of Eno at his most sinister. The track is part of the PB digital album Songs From The Interstellar Hash Bar Jukebox, but was also released in 1997 on the CD-only Alpha Wave Variations album.

This MP3 digital download is sold via Amazon.com. You can preview, purchase and download the Paisley Babylon digital single Blood Alcohol Content .211 for .99 cents.
