To Live and Die In LA Original Soundtrack Wang Chung

Say what you will about the rest of Wang Chung’s output in the 80s.  This soundtrack is top notch–a doomy-yet-pop-friendly piece of moody synth goodness that matches the nihilism of the movie.

To Live And Die In LA was a William Friedkin cops-gone-bad actionfest and while the years have not been kind to the film, it still retains some of its original power, especially the ending.

Wang Chung’s score for this really make the movie what it is. There are some good performances by William Peterson and John Pankow, but Willem Dafoe steals the show as the forger/art obsessive trying to stay one step ahead of the law.

Soundtrack fans should already own a copy of To Live And Die In LA, but many don’t for some reason…for shame! Turntabling has a SEALED, unopened copy of this great record for sale–first come, first served. Check out the trailer below and you’ll remember how awesome everyone thought this movie was when it first hit the screens back in the 80s…it’s still a good watch, if you can forgive a bit of the dated feel of this one.

This is a SEALED and UNOPENED vinyl record. The LP cover has a crease in the lower left corner which will not affect the vinyl or playback.

Schulmadchen Report Soundtrack LP: Gert Wilden

The sexy soundtracks of Eurotrash softcore sleaze movies from the 60s and 70s cannot be beat, and Schulmadchen Report is no exception. The SchoolGirl Report movies were made in Europe, exported to the American grindhouse circuit, and are now on DVD from Synapse films and Impulse Pictures. This soundtrack album features music from the first Schulmadchen Report plus a few other sexy German romps including Die dessierte Frau.

The movies themselves weren’t without controversey. According to one source, “In the United States, the films were released in grindhouses and drive-ins, and the names of the films were changed to conform to American standards. Because the films focused on young girls who may have been under legal age in this country, the Schoolgirl Report series was eventually suppressed.”

Whether or not that’s true, we don’t know–what we DO know is this is one hell of a soundtrack LP. It was released by Crippled Dick Hot Wax and features a gatefold sleeve with liner notes from Video Watchdog’s Tim Lucas, who always has plenty of insightful things to say–the liner notes alone are pretty amazing. On Gert Wilden’s music he says, “Wilden’s wholesome brand of psychedelia  made sexual activity seem adventurous and healthy…”

That observation alone should make curious soundtrack junkies reach for the record.

Check out the music on the fan-made video below–the song is the opening track on the album. We were completely sold on this from the second we heard it.

You can buy Schulmadchen Report from Turntabling for $25.00 plus shipping. This is a sealed, unopened import vinyl LP with a gatefold sleeve. Schulmadchen Report ships oversease–postage may be extra depending on destination. We will bill you or refund postage where appropriate. Turntabling calculates shipping based on weight and destination only–no inflated shipping fees for us! This is available in limited supply–when they’re gone, they’re gone.

Vinyl Records For Sale at Turntabling

I’ve been off the online vinyl record sales for a while–owing mostly to conventions wiping out my supply of LPs for sale, but Turntabling has restocked and I’m selling titles here once again.

I’ve got plenty of cool rarities on vinyl and CD coming up for sale here–watch the posts and you’ll see a steady stream of lust-worthy titles. I’ll be adding items for sale in the sidebars once again, too. Everything goes on back up for sale Friday April 8, 2011.

Everything is NOW AVAILABLE for sale as listed here. Supplies are limited in many cases–if we are sold out of something, we’ll let you know.

I’m taking a new approach with Turntabling which should make the whole experience much easier to manage–every album for sale here is listed individually–one album, one listing. While I do have multiple copies of some titles, some of those are slated to be sold at conventions like Flashback Weekend or Horrorhound.

If you want to buy a title that you discover is out of stock, please drop me an e-mail to see if I have any additional copies. I’d be happy to hook you up with one when the are available. I also have record collector friends who may have copies to sell and I can pass you on to them if I’m currently out of stock on anything.

All vinyl and CD sales directly support Turntabling, so when you buy here you are helping to keep the site running. Many thanks to everyone who has been purchasing and supporting the site in the last couple of years–your love for this music is greatly appreciated.

And as usual, Turntabling continues to blog about all things related to enjoying records, collecting, playing and performing with them. I’ve never wanted this site to be a purely commerce-driven thing, which is why the record sales posts are interspersed with WTF album covers, gear reviews and writeups and other relevant posts.

Thanks, as always, for reading and supporting Turntabling.

WTF Album Covers: Coup Party Music

Staggeringly poor taste? Misguided attempt at controversy? Or bad timing? According to several sources, this album cover for Party Music by Coup was accomplished before September 11, but that didn’t stop the FBI from taking a look. Coup were cleared of any perceived wrongdoing, but the mere existence of this imagery is enough to send Tea Party rebel flag flyers into a fit of apoplexy. To me, it’s just another cheesy album cover–but what POORLY TIMED CHEESE indeed. The story goes that this artwork was accomplished only a few months before September 11. Creepy.

This is not the official artwork for the album–the image above was yanked after 9/11, but it’s still what comes up when you shop for Party Music by Coup on Amazon.com. And that makes it a bona fide WTF moment for me, at least.

But according to the blog Whole Lotta Album Covers, the official album art is much more clever–and more subversive. The subtlety on THIS album cover puts 99% of their peers to shame. In an era filled with excessive goofiness on hip-hop & rap covers, the official cover for Party Music is definitely a breath of fresh air:

UPDATE: Not more than three hours after I posted this, magically Amazon has the official album art on display now instead of the controversial 9/11 cover that was originally designed, then pulled. Did I have anything to do with that? Who knows, but I AM amused…greatly amused.
