Paisley Babylon Free MP3 Download: Retina from The Alpha Wave Variations

paisley babylon alpha wave variationsHere is a free MP3 from Paisley Babylon’s The Alpha Wave Variations. This almost impossible-to-find CD was long out of print until now (you can buy it from Turntabling here) partly due to being unavailable for digital download.

The free MP3 download of Eibon from The Alpha Wave Variations (copyright 1997 Uncle Buzz/Turntabling Records) is a limited-time download offer. This track also appears on the limited-edition 13 Unusual Tracks compilation given away at Flashback Weekend 2009, along with a few new tracks by Paisley Babylon, plus older songs from GOOP, Post-Mortem Telepathy and Opinion8.

For those familiar with Italian horror film soundtracks, Eibon will definitely ring a bell. The source inspiration for this piece was Lucio Fulci’s The Beyond, also known as The Seven Doors of Death. The beginning sequence of the movie is a blend of creepy Italian horror with a bit of Lovecraft thrown in for good measure. Eibon was inspired by the mood of the film, as well as the fantastic boo-hoo surrealist ending. … Continue Reading

Turntabling at Flashback Weekend Friday and Saturday (Oct. 23-24 2009)

13 unusual tracks promo cd turntablingThat’s an iPhone photo of the CD we’ll be giving away tomorrow to some lucky attendees of Chicago’s annual Flashback Weekend, a longtime horror convention staple in the midwest. Turntabling doesn’t have a booth at this one–next year, perhaps after we’ve scoped it out this year–but we will be hangning out at the Kitley’s Krypt booth with a stack of these VERY limited-edition promo discs for Turntabling Records.

These will go very quickly if the performance of the last promo disc, Turntabling Presents 12 Spacey Favorites is any indication. We gave away 30 CDs in no time at all at the Music Box Massacre recently and we fully expect the new promo, Turntabling Presents 13 Unusual Tracks, to be just as popular. These are NOT for sale–they’re promos and therefore totally free. But they’re also a limited edition and when they’re gone, they’re gone for good.

13 Unusual Tracks features another grab bag of odd and rare sounds, including a never-before-on-CD Post-Mortem Telepathy Vs. Pink Floyd mashup, plus some brand new Paisley Babylon tracks unheard and unreleased until now…these won’t be on the promo release for the new vinyl record, either.

13 Unusual Tracks is packed with soundtrack/Morricone-esque sounds, plus some very trippy, spaced out material sure to lull you into a state of near-hallucination. Listen to this disc in the dark, if you’re one of the lucky ones to get it. For the rest of the world, stay tuned as a special promo collection (with different tracks, naturally) for YOU is coming very soon.

Join us this weekend at Flashback. It’s located at:

Paisley Babylon The Alpha Wave Variations On Sale Now

October 15, 2009 For Sale 1 Comment

paisley babylon alpha wave variationsPaisley Babylon’s The Alpha Wave Variations is back in print for a limited time. Some say this disc is unclassifiable, but favorable comparisons have been made to John Carpenter, Eno, and other masters of the analog synth in unusual applications.

Part beat-driven electronic psychedelia and part horror film soundtrack, The Alpha Wave Variations straddles a thin line between sonic sculpture and dark new wave.

One reviewer writes, “If Funki Porcini is like ‘shrooming, then Paisley Babylon is like spending several hours in a flotation tank after ingesting a couple of hash brownies. Definitely one of those in the dark listening experiences.”

The sadly defunct Last Sigh Magazine said of The Alpha Wave Variations, “This CD has a foreboding electronic soundscape… strange murders, cannibalistic activities, and ‘graveyard robberies’…setting the stage for eerie events in one’s dream state with weird echos… More strange sounds produced here that I haven’t heard elsewhere…”

Available on CD for a limited time while supplies last, The Alpha Wave Variations has been out of print for many years until now. It’s not available as an MP3 download or vinyl, but the disc is now on sale here at Turntabling. This is a brand new, sealed CD release on Uncle Buzz Records.

Paisley Babylon Midnight Hallucinations CD/MP3

October 8, 2009 album No Comments

Paisley Babylon Midnight HallucinationsIt’s Halloween season again, which can only mean one thing–Paisley Babylon is back to creep you out electronically with a collection of way-out synth sounds. Yes, Paisley Babylon is the ‘house band’ of Turntabling.net, a chronically unclassifiable synth project running since 1996. Some have compared PB to Dark Side of the Moon-era Pink Floyd, while others say it sounds a lot like a collision between John Carpenter and Goblin.

It’s tough to say who’s right, but one thing’s for sure, this CD/MP3 download is definitely the right soundtrack for your next Halloween shindigm, especially for when you want to turn out all the lights and get down with the adult recreational activities. Sex music for mutants? That was one person’s description of Midnight Hallucinations. You be the judge.

Experimenting with Twitter Plugin

Never Mind The Bollocks, Here'

Yes, we’ve gone over to the dark side here….but I do love the idea that you can update Twitter and the blog at the same time. I do love the simplicity of Twitter and actually thought it might replace blogging for a bit, but I see now the utter folly of that notion.

In other news, purchased the Criterion version of Border Radio, more on that after it arrives and I can review it. Two months ago I scored the once-rare vinyl LP soundtrack for the movie which features the Flesheaters, Divine Horsemen and Chris D. I love this movie and it’s even more fascinating now in light of the fact that the music business as depicted in Border Radio all at once no longer exists AND is the same as it ever was.

I love contradictions and dichotomies.

DJ Paisley Babylon Fear Mix for HorrorHound

March 19, 2009 DJ mix No Comments

spacesuit-sounds-dj-paisley-babylon-fear-mix
Since I’ll be attending the HorrorHound con March  27-29 in Indianapolis with the Kitley’s Krypt crew, I thought it would only be appropriate to whip up a special DJ mix in honor of the con…the Spacesuit Sounds FEAR MIX features an exclusive Paisley Babylon mashup/remix–Goblin Vs. Daft Punk. It kicks off a great DJ mix of tunes including stuff from the Blacula soundtrack, assorted giallos, the giallo-obsessed Skinny Puppy, and much more. Download or listen and please don’t forget to support the bands–if you like the trax, download ‘em via iTunes or Amazon where available.

As regular readers might guess, I’ve got a huge collection of giallo soundtracks and related sounds, so I figure it’s only a matter of time before I get off my duff and start spinning at Chicago horror events and related outings. It will be great to mix and mash for a new crowd…the last time I did anything so specific there was a nice cult following involved and I really do love playing for that kind of an audience…if you like the sounds presented in the Fear Mix edition of Spacesuit Sounds, by all means get in touch.

(I have very reasonable rates for small and medium-sized events if you’re interested in booking…)

As usual, this DJ mix is made available to promote my work as a DJ as well as the artists played. Copyright holders, if you object please get in touch, removal will be swift.

Crevice Live at Flight Gallery 2/14

joe-wallace-in-crevice

Paisley Babylon’s Joe Wallace reunites with Crevice for this performance at Flight Gallery @ 1906 S. Flores San Antonio, Texas on Valentine’s Day. This is a special performance by one of the classic Crevice lineups. Featuring James Cobb, Bryan Stanchak, James Sidlo, Jeff DeCuir and Paisley Babylon’s Joe Wallace, this version of Crevice goes back to the band’s roots. Crevice was known for using a combination of mutated jazz sounds combined with theremin, Moogs and other analog synths to create atmospheres ranging from deceptively calm to violently psychedelic.

Before their shocking live debut in 1996, Crevice were obsessively toiling away in the studio, abusing equipment to its limit in search of the perfect headphone trip.

One hundred and fifteen instruments were used on their debut CD–everything from giant Moog-monster insect soundtracks to super-chill acoustic panoramas. Two of the group’s three members were working on outside soundtrack projects at the time, so it’s no surprise that Crevice sounds more influenced by Apocalypse Now, The Shining, 2001, or Forbidden Planet than by any particular rock band.
