Turntabling at the Zombie Outbreak Film Festival November 14

zombie outbreak film festival portage theater

Come visit the Turntabling booth at the Zombie Outbreak film festival at Chicago’s Portage Theater, Saturday November 14th starting at 4PM. The Turntabling booth features some killer vinyl–new and used, plus a nice variety of CDs just in that aren’t even added to the catalog yet. Are you looking for the Bride of Frankenstein soundtrack? The Best of John Carpenter? How about a soundtrack CD for Patrick McGoohan’s The Prisoner? It will be there on the Turntabling table.

Zombie Outbreak is yet another excellent offering by the Chicago Horror Society, and they ALWAYS show a good time–you can’t lose. Zombies galore, some excellent special features and yes, Turntabling merch. Join us and be sure to drop by and see if there are any cool limited-edition Turntabling freebie discs. Here’s a hint–we’ve given away a freebie disc for the last two shows we’ve been a part of, so if past performance is any indication…

WTF: Mr. Stinky Lives Up To His Name

Mister Stinky Everything Dead

Rap CDs feature some of the most notoriously bad cover art of all time. Exhibit A, from a poor misguided soul who decided to hang his entire career on the name Mr. Stinky.

I’m trying to imagine the conversation about this cover. “Well, my name is MISTER STINKY, and there’s a, you know, stinky dead body over here to the right. And behind me is a stinky van, which is, like, stinky because it’s broken down and looks like something a soccer mom would drive, not an O.G. like myself.” Continue reading WTF: Mr. Stinky Lives Up To His Name

How To Start a Mobile DJ Business

The Mobile DJ handbook how to start and run a profitable mobile DJ business

Has anyone read this? It seems like the sort of thing we should be selling or at least discussing here on Turntabling, since the turntable is still a big part of DJing even if you’re running time code vinyl. Truth be told, I’ve never read The Mobile DJ Handbook, and would be very interested to know what experienced pros think of it before I took the leap. Sure, I could buy a copy and read for myself, but I know SOMEBODY out there has to have picked this up at some point.

What I CAN do is to dispense a bit of advice from my own experiences as a DJ–mobile and otherwise. Thinking about taking the plunge? Read on. Continue reading How To Start a Mobile DJ Business

WTF: Scarred For Life in Lounge Lizard Land

Tubby Boots Goes Topless Bad album art WTF

In my never-ending quest for horrifying album covers, I often stumble across wonderful blogs like my source for the above brain-scarring vinyl terrorist attack called Tubby Boots Goes Topless. The great Eye Of The Goof is so deliciously retro (in the tiki and lounge sort of way rather than a retro 80s or futurist 60s sort of approach) that I feel compelled to return to Hawaii to purchase an armload of tiki carvings and some grass skirts.

To be fair, in my quest for Tubby Boots Goes Topless, I also ran across the equally great LP Cover Lover, so this was a mini-dilemma in terms of who to give credit to…but it doesn’t matter–both blogs are excellent and well worth a read. Now to Tubby Boots… Continue reading WTF: Scarred For Life in Lounge Lizard Land
