One of our favorite soundtrack’s of Mr. Ortolani is the 1969 thriller Una sull’altra a.k.a. Perversion Story. The swinging grooves of this one fit the images presented of wild San Francisco nightlife like a glove. Listening to the menu screen of the DVD several times before playing the movie is actually a joy. The music is that wonderful.
Only when the second cut (Surreal) hits the needle, does one realize something is wrong with the vibrant life of the first track. The tone becomes uneasy. Low groans and whimpers seep into album. Echoes and laughter bring chills to spine. When the John Dalton Street orchestration returns, the sinister has taken over. What has happened?
Murders happen in this movie. The police suspect a couple of outsiders, with devil worship as their motive. The actual culprits includes the unborn, the recently deceased, and the government’s latest idea for pest control.
As an individual experience, this soundtrack is amazing. Death Waltz Records released a Vinyl LP of The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue that any fan of the movies and soundtracks should seek out. Turntabling presents a retro-dub/lounge-fi/electronic industrial/WTF DJ set at tonight’s Constantly Consuming Culture art show put on by Mapanare.us. The show opens at 6:30 PM tonight (September 7 2013) and is located at at 222 North Desplaines Chicago, IL on the lower level.
Artists in the show: John Airo, Julia Hamilton, Elyse Martin, Gretchen Hasse, Serena Toxicat (San Francisco) John Schedler and Mikey Peterson.
Turntabling and Tim Larson from Chicago’s own Tim Larson and the Owner Operators will be DJing–Turntabling set includes Ennio Morricone remixes, Italian lounge, dub, some electronic industrial, and an extended play set of Binary Partners tracks and unreleased material.
Turntabling has been involved in many Chicago art and media events including shows by OhNo! Doom! and the Paisley Babylon Beautiful Chaos project which was featured at the 2010 Music Box Massacre and in the Not The Film Room at Capricon 32 in 2012.

Don’t miss it, it likely won’t be around long. Plastic Records is another one of those Italian labels we like to grab whenever we can find their material. They’re just as awesome as Right Tempo/Easy Tempo, Dagored and Cinevox as far as Turntabling is concerned.
This is just one of the rare, cool, hard-to-find, and just plain awesome records we’ve found while scouring the earth for the right kinds of records. Other recent additions for sale include the awesome reissue of Marshall McLuhan’s The Medium is the Massage LP by Five Day Weekend Records.
Five Day Weekend did us ALL a favor by reissuing this LP in all its dated, 60s glory. Make no mistake, “dated” in this context is TOTALLY awesome. There’s nothing like some of these crazy 60s-era sonic experiments, and I highly recommend picking this up if you’re a fan of stuff like the Modcinema.com DVDs Colorspace Volume One, Colorshopping, etc.
Released in 1968, you can get a fascinating look at what media theorists and manipulators were thinking about mass media way back then. Compare it to today’s musings about social media, Google, and other issues and you’ll draw some very interesting parallels.
