WTF Bad Album Covers: Organ Fantasy

We were so busy last week with the inauguration of our new digital single download offerings that we haven’t posted a single bad album cover in quite some time. But rest assured, now that the kickoff of the digital downloads has started we are back on the prowl for the worst album covers ever.

For example…

Organ Fantasy does NOT sound like the name of a record…it’s more like some unreleased David Friedman 42nd Street “adults only” epic starring Chesty Morgan and an embryonic Shannon Tweed. If it weren’t for that balloon on the lower left pointing the way, you could almost excuse this as the work of some genuinely naive and misguided soul…but no. Organ Fantasy is definitely the work of some twisted prankster.

And what on EARTH was the near literal FRENZY to preserve ORGAN music in the first place? There are so many records dedicated to the organ that you’d think all the performers would be EXTINCT in five years or something. How many frickin’ organ records do we really need? No wonder they resorted to Freudian names with Beavis and Butthead visual puns on the cover–the art directors were probably going out of their minds with the literal avalanche of organ records.

Electronic Penis Choppers Digital Single: The M Diary

Electronic Penis Choppers–one of the trouble-making side projects of Paisley Babylon. EPC plays coarser, moreĀ abrasive textures than Paisley Babylon–this is a band that likes its electronica sharp and spiky.

This particular digital single, The M Diary, is probably comparable to Wire at its most experimental–think of a more hyperactive and prickly “Small Electric Piece” from Wire’sĀ 154 album crossed with some Musick to Play In The Dark -era Coil and you’ve got the right idea.

The M Diary features more than six minutes of captivating electronics, the creation of which were influenced by organic substances that should be hinted at rather than named.

The M Diary is as far away from smooth and mellow as it gets. How did this track get made at all considering the brain fuel involved?

No matter. Electronic Penis Choppers strikes again, with a very sharp object into your central nervous system. You won’t feel any pain when it goes in, you’ll just see blue flashes and wonder why the colors taste so funny.

Don’t be fooled by the false ending near the final section of the track–EPC brings back the metallic tones for one last bow before the track winds up. Wait for those skittering sounds to return before moving on to the next track.

This track is available for download via Amazon.com. Preview, purchase and download The M Diary by Electronic Penis Choppers for .99 cents.

Turntabling Booth at HorrorHound Weekend 2011 Indianapolis

March 25-27, Turntabling will be running the usual booth at HorrorHound Weekend at the Mariott Indianapolis East, located at 7202 East 21st Street, Indianapolis IN 46219. The table will be CRAMMED full of vinyl obscurities and CD imports from Goblin, Morricone, and many many more. Get the last of the Dawn of the Dead vinyl while you can, plus amazingly obscure/hard-to-find/just plain cool records by Francisco Lai, Misfits, Air, Daft Punk, Isaac Hayes and too many others to name.

Turntabling has been doing shows for a couple of years now and we’re always glad to see new faces at Horrorhound as well as old friends. This year is going to be a most excellent event and we look forward to seeing you there. Stop by and say hello.

P.S. The online orders are on hold until after HorrorHound AND the Cinema Wasteland show, which happen back-to-back this year. Can’t safely offer stuff online when it’s getting sold out at the show…we will let you know when online ordering is back again. Needless to say, this does NOT count for digital downloads offered as part of the Turntabling digital singles experiment we’re running now….

Electronic Penis Choppers Digital Single: Android Sex Farm

Electronic Penis Choppers sound like a demented picnic between members of The Orb and Richard D. James, with Gillian Gilbert from New Order acting as referee. Don’t ask us what that’s supposed to mean, it’s just the mental picture that comes when Android Sex Farm is on.

EPC is a troublemaking little project from the same studio that spawns Paisley Babylon material. If Paisley Babylon is electronic music for isolation tank expeditions, Electronic Penis Choppers is what you’d want to be listening to on the dance floor after a nice long go on the nitrous oxide dispenser. The Orb, Aphex Twin and fans of The Other Two are all likely to enjoy this track, written at 2AM after a night of driving through Chicago city streets with headlights turned off and the stereo on full blast.

So yes, this is energetic chill-out music. Is that a contradiction? Perfect for post-club listening, Electronic Penis Choppers are carving out their own little niche with hallucinatory, laid back grooves. When you’ve had more than enough to drink but aren’t anywhere near ready for bed, this is the stuff.

You can preview and download the Android Sex Farm digital single from Electronic Penis Choppers via Amazon.com for .99 cents or check out the entire Electronic Penis Choppers album, Sex Music For H.P. Lovecraft on iTunes.
