I love both the concept and execution of Dust and Grooves. Just look at that amazing photo of The Ohio Players greatest hits collection–just one of the many crate digger’s delights you’ll discover at DustandGrooves.com. There is a decent sized archive of excellent posts to crawl through here but it’s sad that the site hasn’t updated since late April–but Dust and Grooves’s Eilon Paz has been traveling so it’s entirely possible it’s just a temporary hiatus. (Please say it’s temporary!)

One of the great entries on the blog is the feature on European record collector Viktor Kiswell who had this little gem in his collection:

This is by far one of the coolest things for sale here at Turntabling. Otto, or Up With Dead People, is a zombie movie with a few MAJOR twists. The best one is that part of the film is told from the zombie’s point of view. The soundtrack to this zombie movie by Bruce la Bruce is full of amazing electronic and experimental sounds evened out by great tracks by The Homophones and the Living Dead Boys. Appearing on the soundtrack–Pandas of Black Metal, La Jovenc, No Bra, Misty Roses, Eyes and Teeth and many more.

Otto or Up With Dead People is not an easy zombie movie to watch for some who might feel a bit uncomfortable with the more explicit scenes (the sex/cannibalism element is really well done) but it’s an EXCELLENT film. It’s a frequent player in the Turntabling DVD machine and we highly recommend it. The soundtrack is so cool we’re shocked that it’s even available on vinyl these days–thought all these would be have been snapped up ages ago.

WTF Album Covers Disco Rick Has A Mouthful For You

WTF album covers Disco Rick

If you think this is a throwaway from Chappelle’s Show, think again. The Negro’s Back by Disco Rick is one hell of a bewildering album cover. Is he brandishing the KKK hood because he just beat the living crap out of some inbred redneck throwback or is he threatening to MAKE YOU WEAR IT?

The flames on this WTF album cover are also confusing. Is Disco Rick in HELL here? Or maybe he’s just set fire to his own pants because, you know, it makes him feel sexy. Disco Rick isn’t sporting any disco attire here, so it’s not exactly clear what kind of disco we’re dealing with here. Perhaps this album cover is actually an ADVERTISEMENT for a redneck disco that features a nightly bonfire and weenie roast. Or maybe Disco Rick is actually a fireman and we’re mistaking a piece of safety equipment for a Klan hood.

No, that’s not right.

There’s SOME kind of statement going on here, just hard to figure out what it is. The noose, the fire, and the hood would all be pretty emotionally loaded, politically charged stuff…except the message is coming from a guy with the word DISCO in his stage name. It’s the equivalent of getting a book in the mail titled, “The Relative Merits of James Joyce and William Faulkner” written by HOWARD STERN. Sony MDR7506 Headphones

As a DJ, musician, video editor, and reporter I have used every kind of headphones you can imagine, from the goofy one-ear monitor that you see people wearing with Sony Betacam professional video cameras to high-end Sennheisers and Audio Technicas.

But I keep coming back to these Sony MDR7506 headphones. They sound great, and while not indestructible they do take a bit of a beating and keep coming back for more. I recommend them…I can’t say they are the most COMFORTABLE headphones in the world  but they do get the job done and then some. If you’re looking for sound far better than those crappy white earbuds, or just starting to outfit a studio or road tour kit with some decent gear, these under-$100 Sony headphones are a very good way to go.
