Turntabling at Constantly Consuming Culture Art Opening in Chicago

Turntabling will run a DJ set at the first-ever Constantly Consuming Culture art show put on by Mapanare.us.

Featured artists in the Chicago-based show include John Airo, Julia Hamilton, Elyse Martin, Gretchen Hasse, Serena Toxicat (San Francisco) John Schedler and Mikey Peterson.

The show runs September 7 to 13 and someone will be on hand daily beginning September 9 to 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday September 8 or other times by appointment. For more info on the show itself or to book an appointment to see the work, go to ConstantlyConsumingCulture.com.

Turntabling will share the decks with Tim Larson from Chicago’s own Tim Larson and the Owner Operators and the sounds will be pretty diverse. The Turntabling portion will feature Ennio Morricone remixes, Italian lounge, dub, some electronic industrial, and an extended play set of Binary Partners music.

Turntabling has been involved in many Chicago art and media events including shows by OhNo! Doom! and the Paisley Babylon Beautiful Chaos project which was featured at the 2010 Music Box Massacre and in the Not The Film Room at Capricon 32 in 2012.

The Constantly Consuming Culture art show opens Saturday September 7 2013 at 6:30 PM. It’s located at 222 North Desplaines Chicago, IL on the lower level. The Turntabling set features DJ Paisley Babylon, AKA Joe Wallace.

For more information, see the Mapanare official Facebook events page for the show.

Turntabling and DJ Paisley Babylon are available for booking for art shows, film festivals, media events, private gatherings and similar events. We have a specially curated collection of retro sounds featuring dub, Italian lounge, gothic/industrial, new wave, and unusual vinyl. This isn’t your typical party DJ experience–it’s a retro groovy/sinister flashback experience that covers a wide range of sounds and atmospheres ranging from pure chill-out to Halloween party-creepy depending on the event.

I Buy Record Collections: Chicago Industrial Music, 90s Electronica, Italian Soundtracks, Lounge, Bizarre LPs and Oddities

Turntabling has many purposes. One of them is to scour the earth to find and offer you the most interesting and hard-to-find titles in selected genres including soundtracks, goth, industrial, post-punk, and many other genres. Another is to archive the strangest and most unusual vinyl on the planet–I have a special love for weird, unusual, and WTF vinyl records.

To do both of these at once, I find myself in the position of having to buy record collections–a lot of people don’t want to part with SOME of their records, just ALL of them for whatever reason. And I am VERY happy to help. I gladly accept donations of record collections but am also willing to make an offer of a group of titles.

If you have a vinyl record collection to sell, do get in touch with me at jwallace242 at gmail and let me know the size of the collection, a list of titles or sample list of titles, their approximate condition and any other information I can use to get started.

I am actively looking for record collections that contain titles in the goth, industrial, post-punk, soundtrack, and spoken word genres. I am also interested in a limited number of unusual jazz albums by artists like Sun Ra. Also, Stockhausen, John Cage, and other innovators and pioneers are most welcome.

For every want list, there’s also a DO NOT WANT list. My own personal do not want list includes classic rock, classical, country, show tunes/Broadway musicals or the majority of Jazz records with exceptions made for Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and other innovators. Typical jazz LPs fall outside my curation and collection interests.

But if you have a collection of Skinny Puppy, Sisters Of Mercy, Thrill Kill Kult and other industrial vinyl you want to get rid of, Drop me a line. The same goes for Alien Sex Fiend, Gang of Four, or most other post-punk luminaries and unknowns. I am particularly interested in unknown and underrated bands in the New Wave, goth and industrial genres, etc. Some of the most amazing records are not necessarily by the big names in these genres, but rather the unknowns and under-rateds.

I buy vinyl collections!

New Vinyl Arrivals at Turntabling: Morricone, Joy Division, Goblin

There is a TON of great new vinyl for sale on the Turntabling Discogs page. Italian soundtrack fans will love the addition of My Delicious Spaghetti Western on the legendary Dagored label, and it’s been a great long while since I had a copy of Ennio Morricone’s La Donna Invisible to offer–it’s one of my favorite soundtracks from the era. I am always on the lookout for more excellent titles from Italy from the giallo, horror, sci-fi and thriller genres. You can never have too many Goblin albums, and Morricone’s work from the 60s and 70s never gets dull.

Turntabling sells vinyl from a variety of genres including soundtracks, goth/industrial, 80s new wave and punk, and just plain rare/obscure titles. I scour the earth to find these, and several times a year embark on cross-country trips to buy entire collections, find weird and outrageous vinyl, and meet my fellow vinyl junkies.

If you have a collection to sell, I’d be very happy to discuss it–but please know that I buy in the genres that I sell here. Country, show tunes, classic rock, and other genres unrelated to what I sell on Turntabling are of little interest. The ONLY exception to that rule is when weird or unsual albums are involved.

Here is a VERY SMALL selection of what I currently have for sale on Discogs. You can always send me an e-mail for a list of my latest arrivals–it’s an auto-responder that has my very latest items listed. Just send an email to: turntabling23@gmail.com. This list is updated whenever I get new arrivals–want the latest? Just send another email to that address and you’ll have the latest updated version.

Thanks very much for checking out Turntabling! Your interest is what keeps the site going year after year.
