Turntabling At Horror Society Film Festival October 23 & 24

Join me at the Portage Theater, 4050 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago for a jammin’ two-day film festival sponsored by the Chicago Horror Society this Saturday and Sunday October 23 and 24 2010.

Turntabling will have a table chock full of rare vinyl finds including the now totally out of print Tenebre soundtrack LP, plus plenty of other Goblin on LP and CD, plus Morricone, Public Image Limited, and hundreds more vinyl and CD titles.

Sunday at 2PM, Turntabling house band/multimedia art terrorism project Paisley Babylon performs a set to kick off the second day of the festival, complete with a lovely little video mashup called Satan’s Greatest Hits which may even be available for sale at the Turntabling table after the performance.

The two-day festival is THE Horror Society event of the year, you do NOT want to miss this one as it is packed full of great movies from here and abroad. Mitch, Jessica and company have really pulled out all the stops this time and you will NOT walk away from this show disappointed.

Adam and Joe’s Record Store Guide

I have no idea who Adam and Joe are, but they know their music shops…pretty damn funny, though there are sure to be a few “take me seriously” types reading this who will get offended because they have no sense of humor about their amusing record shop habits. My favorite part of this vid is all the bogus names for electronica genres. “Ambient Nutsack” and “Hardcore German Housewives”…PRICELESS.

Paisley Babylon DJ Mixes

It’s been a while since I posted any new DJ Paisley Babylon mixes and the gigs have been coming from all sides as of late…it was high time to get some more up here! These MP3s were recorded live in-studio and at events including the infamous Horror Society Zombie Disco. Feast your ears on a wide range of extremely danceable sounds from around the world. I’m always available to talk bookings, feel free to drop me an e-mail to jwallace (at) turntabling (dot) net. Have gear, will travel.

DJ Paisley Babylon Zombie Disco 2 set @ Lucky Number Grill Chicago July 24 2010

Paisley Babylon Soundcheck Set for Music Box Massacre @The Music Box Theater Chicago, October 8 2010 (This isn’t your typical DJ set–it was a mixed media sound collage presentation featuring music, video, turntablism, live mashups and vinyl manipulation. More of an audio art installation…)

Post-Punk/New Romantic Mixup (live in-studio)

Paisley Babylon mixes include a healthy pile of vinyl records from around the globe. I spin post-punk, funk, disco, dub, funĀ  psychedelia singles, reggae, retro, new wave, electronica, chillout/lounge, bossa nova, and unclassifiable sounds from Italy, Japan, Germany, Iceland and elsewhere. I’m not a latest-hits club kid DJ and I’d rather keep a party or event fun and danceable than stay married to a particular genre. Gigs should be fun and memorable. Get in touch with me about yours and we’ll plan a great time. (312) 504-1264 or jwallace (at) turntabling (dot) net.

WTF Album Covers: Hello Lovers Roger Nusic Here For You Only

Knowing absolutely nothing about this record other than this wacko-jacko album cover, the first thing that springs to mind when I look at the image is, “I remember THAT SCENE in Cannibal Holocaust…” The liner notes for this Roger Nusic album on CD Baby helpfully mention the contribution of a drummer named Sticky Dave Friendly. With a name like that, can a career in porn be very far away?

Unfortunately for Roger Nusic, the album covers only get creepier from here. Feast your eyes on THIS:

I weep for the future.
