Turntabling at Flashback Weekend Friday and Saturday (Oct. 23-24 2009)

13 unusual tracks promo cd turntablingThat’s an iPhone photo of the CD we’ll be giving away tomorrow to some lucky attendees of Chicago’s annual Flashback Weekend, a longtime horror convention staple in the midwest. Turntabling doesn’t have a booth at this one–next year, perhaps after we’ve scoped it out this year–but we will be hangning out at the Kitley’s Krypt booth with a stack of these VERY limited-edition promo discs for Turntabling Records.

These will go very quickly if the performance of the last promo disc, Turntabling Presents 12 Spacey Favorites is any indication. We gave away 30 CDs in no time at all at the Music Box Massacre recently and we fully expect the new promo, Turntabling Presents 13 Unusual Tracks, to be just as popular. These are NOT for sale–they’re promos and therefore totally free. But they’re also a limited edition and when they’re gone, they’re gone for good.

13 Unusual Tracks features another grab bag of odd and rare sounds, including a never-before-on-CD Post-Mortem Telepathy Vs. Pink Floyd mashup, plus some brand new Paisley Babylon tracks unheard and unreleased until now…these won’t be on the promo release for the new vinyl record, either.

13 Unusual Tracks is packed with soundtrack/Morricone-esque sounds, plus some very trippy, spaced out material sure to lull you into a state of near-hallucination. Listen to this disc in the dark, if you’re one of the lucky ones to get it. For the rest of the world, stay tuned as a special promo collection (with different tracks, naturally) for YOU is coming very soon.

Join us this weekend at Flashback. It’s located at:

WTF: Pantera Doesn’t Want You To See This

wtf13

I admit it, I have a thing against a lot of the hair metal and post-hair band metal albums. Let the reader beware, it all sounds like the Cookie Monster with a backup band to me. With that caveat in mind…

Once upon a time, the name Pantera was synonymous with large music industry dollars…or so it seemed, anyway. They were EVERYWHERE. You couldn’t see for the forest of Pantera concert shirts, and if you asked anybody in a truck stop ANYWHERE what they listened to, it was inevitably, “Payanterrra”.

Where are they now? Who cares? To some of us, this sort of record sounds like this:

WTF: International Winner For Worst Album Cover Ever?

bad album art all time winner female vocals

I really don’t know what the hell is going on with this album cover. I discovered this at BadRecordCovers.com and am still reeling from the effects of what is either a man in drag poking fun at hirsute women or a hirsute woman reveling in her unshaven glory. For the record–there’s nothing wrong with the hirsute look, it’s not my cup of tea exactly, but I like to keep an open mind.

What really gets me about this wretched cover is the “I farted!” expression on this person’s face combined with the freakish hand flex–is she having a stroke here or what? And WTF is going on with her OTHER hand, anyway? Combine that with the nauseous background color and you have a candidate for Possibly Worst Thought-Out Album Cover, Like, Ever.

AC/DC Goes Overboard

ACDC guitar amp box set

This is fairly nuts, but you have to admire the vision–Aussie lads AC/DC are set to release an insane box set of live and studio rarities, according to Paste Magazine. The Paste article says this is due out in early November, but you can find it for sale now on Amazon.com.

Back Tracks features three CDs, two DVDs, plus a 180 gram audiophile vinyl record full of rare studio stuff. Oh, did we mention the damn thing comes with a working guitar amp as part of the packaging? According to Paste, the head is fully functional. Continue reading AC/DC Goes Overboard
